Patch broke your textures/mods?

So, I keep reading about the patches breaking your textures/mods and I've become aware of the solution and want to share it with everyone.

The new patch basically disables ArchiveInvalidation. Manual install and BSA alike. Apparently the problem is that the game dislikes the load order under the new patch.

I've read people talking about getting Steam to verify the integrity of the cache, and I'd advise against that. All it does is delete your .ini files and replaces them with stock ones. But, if you feel you want to cover all your bases, go for it.

So, to fix your problems go into your

Program Files(x86 for you x64 users)>Steam>steamapps>common>fallout new vegas

find the fallout_default.ini file. In it search for the word [ARCHIVE] and scroll down till you see this:

SArchiveList=ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa

And replace it with this:

SArchiveList=Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa, ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa

Now, all mods that require texture changes should be completely fixed. If you want to you can replace it in your fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini in your:

Documents>My Games>FalloutNV folder

Although, I don't think this part is necessary.

Anyways, this should fix the texture/replacer problems, and any mod problems you might have had. I've yet to have any problems since I did this.

Edit:

If your SArchive list in your default.ini has instead the AII-FNV.bsa in it instead of the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa your new SArchive list needs to look like this.

SArchiveList=Fallout - Voices1.bsa, AII-FNV!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa

Also, if you're using the old FOMM you could use the new one as I'm told it is somewhat helpful.

Be advised though that the new mod manager is still in alpha. People are having more problems with it than the one created by Jayrun. If you are getting good results with that one, stick with the old one until the new one by Kaburke is more stable.

Going to try this right now. I've been busy making a very large archiveinvalidate.txt file. LOL!

EDIT: WORKS!

Thanks man, kudos to you!

Thanks, and glad to hear it! The .txt file wouldn't have worked anyways from what I'm to understand though. Oh well! This was probably much easier!

Much, the txt file works but it would have been a pain in the arse. I only did about 3 mods with it and confirmed that they work. This is way better. :)

I had it troubleshooted to the point where I knew it was the archiveInvalidateInvalidated file that was causing the crash, but I didn't take it any further then that. Should have tried the load order. Thanks again!

Thank you for posting this solution. I myself have chosen not to update yet. I'm hoping the big patch will solve the problems with this patch and also other problems and Ill take the risk then.

Its people like you that make this game playable and this site one of the best mod sites around.

Still doesnt work. I think its because i do something wrong, since fallouts .ini files are totally unknown for me. I tried to replace the SArchive list with every line you posted here, but the game still crashes at startup. I really would like to get this version working since i want to use NVSE. Can anybody give me clear step by step guide?

(Installed Fallout mods since 2008 and still dont understand some things=D)

Are you sure you're editing the right .ini file? I'll post a quick reply just in case. :3

I'm not at my computer with the game on it, so I'll try my best from memory.

Okay, so the .ini file you want to edit is in:

Program Files(x86 or whatever)>Steam>steamapps>common>fallout new vegas

The file is FALLOUT_DEFAULTS.INI (capped for emphasis). This is the file you want to be editing. This is the major file. It basically says how the game is gonna run at start up. Make sure you aren't in the DATA folder. Anyways, after you're sure you're in the right file then follow the instructions in my first post.

The .ini files in the My Games folder under My Documents files are important, but not as important as that _default. ini. So, after you do the default one if you want to you can do the falloutprefs.ini and fallout.ini

Let me know if you still have problems and we'll try to get you running again.
