AH1
Hey all, I've done some searching (nothing too exhaustive, I admit), but I couldn't find a mod that did what I'm looking for. Basically, I'm wondering if a mod exists that correct the "walk in place" NPCs--that is, the NPCs that seemingly walk in place, or walk into walls, etc. It is kind of annoying because about 40 to 50% of my NPCs just walk in place, or walk in place in front of a door instead of opening it, or walk in place all night in front of their bed instead of getting in, etc. I know I'm not that only one who has found this odd/annoying, but I couldn't find a mod that did anything about it. That's not to say there isn't one. There probably is. But searching NPC or NPC walk on TESN generally results in 45 pages of "sexy NPC" replacers. Nothing useful for my tastes or concerns. Thanks for the direction.
Megatarius
That sounds like conflicts are causing the problem. If NPC's walk into walls, it could be due to pathgrid conflicts. I can't say why they would walk in place of things like the bed. Do they, when the time comes for them to continue with their schedules, stop walking in front of the bed and go on with their days, or do they continue to walk in front of the bed forever, because the sleeping part was never fullfilled? I've never seen this walk in place thing happen before. How common is it for you? What's your load order?
Smooth613
Indeed it could be a mod conflict. Or it could also just be bad pathing or AI problems. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch and Supplementals fix many leftover bugs and glitches. Don't forget the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch and Unofficial Official Mods Patch. LFact
Don't forget the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch and Unofficial Official Mods Patch. Only if you have Shivering Isles and official DLCs.
Smooth613
I would hope that would be obvious. No need to patch something you don't have. I mean that would be like downloading an Assassin's Creed Patch without owning the game. Who would do that? Maybe it's not so obvious to some folks. AH1
Thanks for the suggestions. I already have all those patches. The pathing errors don't seem to cause any major problems. They people go on with their day like normal, even if they spent all night walking in place. Usually, if I push them out of the way by walking into them until they have bypassed whatever is causing the problems, everything goes back to normal. I should mention that this isn't a game breaking or severe problem. 90% of all NPCs behave normally, or close to normally. It is just a weird occurrence once and awhile, usually with non-essential "background" NPCs that just walk around and don't do anything. I don't think it is a mod conflict in this case. The Vanilla Oblivion was doing the same thing before I installed any mods. I've always believed it was a common problem because it is such a common joke about Oblivion (and other Havoc engine games like Fallout 3/NV). I've seen plenty of webcomics and other material spoofing it. Another reason I don't suspect mod troubles is because this happens in areas like the Imperial City where I have not modded anything. I haven't downloaded any mods that "change" the vanilla experience, by which I mean adding new areas or stores, etc. This is the only "problem" I'm having. Right now, I'm not experiencing any crashes or graphics artifacts. No weather problems or broken items, etc. Still, it is possible it could be a mod conflict, which is why I'm asking people more experienced than me. Here is my load order if you'd like to take a look. I have to say, it is pretty funny seeing two NPCs walking into each other to infinity instead of just walking past each other.
