Least of evils

Can anyone tip me off as to a possible path through the moral morass that the strip fractions represent? In short do any of them have any worthwhile qualities as far as stopping the Legion is concerned?

The question that came up elsewhere 'do you roleplay' I have to admit I do, I roleplay the impossibility good person I'd wish to see in the real world. So in NV when I'm looking for the 'good fight' to side with I'm having a hard time because as far as I can tell all of the strip fractions are scum that would be better off being put out of everyone else's misery.

Now the only thing I've done on the strip is nosy around the DeLux and try to ingratiate myself with the Ometras (because Col Moore asked me to) and came away feeling like I wanted to burn my clothes and scrub myself with sand. House seems to be the electronic ghost of a megalomaniac (even President Eden didn't need a 40 foot screen) the white glove soc are elitist cannibal snobs and the Omertras greedy pimping thugs. I told House I preferred the wasteland!

That the legion are clearly manics led by a psychotic is straight forward enough and needs opposing but my fundamental question is what good are the strip fractions because I'm inclined to work my way up to level 30 or so and go exterminate everyone with a name in all of the casinos.

The great khans for instance, professional raiders, at least make drugs and could help fight the Legion. The boomers, mad as meat-axe handles to a man but posses formidable weapons and are pledged to help. But from what little I've seen the casino gangs are nasty parasites that are seriously hindering the NCR who, flawed as they are the the only hope of defeating Caesar.

Do I actually need any of these Vegas scum?

(3rd character build, Lvl22, somewhere around half way through the story. . . and I think I'm having trouble with the whole theme of this game. Perhaps I'd be happier trying to unite the Middle Earth against Sauron? )

From what Yes Man at the end of the game if you side with him, I get the feeling that he's gonna want to take over considering the fact that he's the one controlling all the securitrons, not you. If that's the case, you really don't have the option to make yourself the king of the hill in this game.

I however chose to support the NCR simply because I like their whole story and the fact that they're trying to unite as many places as they can to restore some sense of order. That and the fact that I don't really trust robots (hello Eden! Hello Mr. House!), nor do I like those degenerates that crucify people for teh lulz. I mean seriously, they're trying to evolve by trying to be like a civilization that's thousands of years old? How's that supposed to be evolution?

From what I've seen the least of evils from the strip would have to be poor Michael Angelo, haha! :D

It would be hard to find fault with the residents of Vault 21, and (once the guy who isn't Benny is in charge) I don't have a problem with the cats at the Tops.

If you're really into role-playing a good guy, you should have a long talk with Julie at the Old Mormon Fort in Freeside and make sure to resolve all their issues. The ending that's best for them is the one associated with favoring the NCR, by the way (see Endings).

Hey it was a night like any other right, the punters were doin' their thing and the cash was rolling in like always. Anyhow the broad on the reception says this punk comes in, the one that's been doing the odd jobs and he's got this huge rifle and Manny ask's him for it an Boom! no more Manny. I guess Manny got it good.

Well the punk goes down one one knee an takes out the cashier Boom! Now you can hear this goddamn gun all over the hotel so guys come running from all directions and some of them gets to take a shot but the punks got armor right. No, I'm not kiddin' he's crouched there capping anyone with a gun drawn, which was when some of the guys starts to wise up. I mean the punters are screamin an runnin about but the punk aint touchin 'em. Seems as if we had the words OMERTRA floating over our heads or sumtin' so some of us that hung back gets to see him walk right through the lobby and walk upstairs, I hears Button's gun, y'know that godawful shotgun he has and Boom! an I don't hear no more from Buttons shotgun then Boom! which sounded like Big Sals office.

So the punk is outa there an heading for the guest suites theres some guys I guess one of them drew his piece 'cos Boom Boom Boom an its all gone quiet. Anyhows the Punk's searchin the whole hotel. An we just standing watchin' him cos we've figured he's smoking anyone who draws He gets to Nero's room an I'm in the hallway an little Mickey is at Nero's room door when the punk marches up and begins pickin' the lock! Mickey's lookin at me like 'What do I do?' Punk looks at Mickey, Mickey looks at punk an sez

"Find yourself a girl or a guy have some fun, were a family"

"Yea in inbred, scary, abusive one!" sez the punk an cracks the lock.

Well Nero must be hiding in the john or mebbe's the story about his bug out passage is true 'cos there's no boom from the suite an the punk marches outa there, not a happy camper, y'kow what I'm sayin.

Later I hear he killed Dazzle an Joanna, they went for him see, how dumb can a hooker get? A guy with armor toting a a gun as big as he is an the stupid broad tries to scratch his face or sumthin. But y'know the weird thing is he din't rob nothin, like nothing, cracked every lock in the place an didn't take one damn cap!

Anyway he didn't get Nero so Gomorrah goes on. But that punk sure is hated here now

Well, first thing I noticed people saying - House ain't a robot. He's a human being kept alive by life support.

In my game, I didn't see anything wrong with the White Hand society, though they were definitely creepy like Benny told Yes Man. The Tops guys, other than Benny, seemed alright to me. The Omerta's have troubles that can be solved, so they have the potential to be alright, but are initially bad to keep around. The Kings were decent people, it's just a few members that are screwing it up for them, like someone else said. Followers of the Apocalypse are a good people as well.

Outside the Strip, the Brotherhood can go either way depending on which Elder is in place. NCR and Legion are mirror images of each other, but the NCR ain't so squeaky clean itself - they are just as interested in the job getting done in any way possible, just more under the radar. The Boomers mostly just want to keep to themselves - they are good people though.

The Khans seemed fairly level headed to me, despite being at war with NCR initially. They are definitely not near as bad as they were in Fallout 1. Their alliance with Caesar is mostly out of convenience and because of, initially, a common enemy (who attacked who first I'm unaware of, but it seems to me that both the NCR and Khans are at fault because of differing beliefs). They can be convinced otherwise, and that's actually a fair bit easier than it first seems. Sure, they sell drugs, but they can be convinced to sell helpful chems as well. I guess your opinion of them really depends on how skewed your idea of selling drugs actually is.
