LE Are there any Follower Mods with (likeable) personalities?

I'm not a huge fan of 99% of the follower mods on either Nexus or Steam.

 

I'd prefer a woman follower so I can have some nice eye candy to look at (and preferably human-looking; elf is ok, as long as they have skin that looks like it could be done in the real world), so Inigo is out.

 

But although I'd like some eye candy, I'm not interested in an overly sexualized whorebag. To me, there's a difference between "beautiful" and "slutty." This means that Sofia is rejected.

 

Arissa is also out of the question. Because, quite frankly, she's a damned thief. I'm a good guy, and anytime I try to roleplay an evil character, I always feel dirty. I want a companion I can get to know.

 

Last but not least, there's Vilja. Remember, I said elves are okay, as long as they have human-looking skin; well, Altmer have Caucasian skin.

 

Only one problem: I'm sorry, but ... her VOICE is ear-grading! I haven't even played with her in Skyrim yet, but if she's anything like she was in Oblivion, her nails-on-a-chalkboard voice always made me cringe!

 

If she were a real person, I'd sympathize, because she couldn't help it, but she's an NPC. Even then, am I really supposed to settle with a follower whose voice LITERALLY causes me physical pain?

 

So, are there any lady followers out there who actually have fully fleshed out, three-dimensional personalities, outside of just being whores?

Also, I'd like a lore-friendly reason why the follower is willing to accompany you in your life-threatening travels. People like Cosnach will be your follower if you just give him a beer, and that makes no sense!

 

Many follower mods I've tried just have this NPC ready to follow you for no reason at all. You don't even have to give them a beer; you just walk in, tell them to follow you, and bam! You don't even have to pay them 500 gold!

 

Only a handful of vanilla followers have lore-friendly reasons for risking their lives by your side, most of which boil down to "They're appointed to your service."

 

I'd like a follower who doesn't trust you at first (like Arissa, minus the "thief" bullcrap), and you have to slowly build up her trust.

 

I'd also like the ability to LOSE reputation with this follower. I want my interactions with NPC to have consequences

See, here's the deal; a lot of the best follower mods are female. Calling them whores would be insulting to the authors; unless that was their intent...which, I imagine, for most, was not the case.

 

Since you seem intent on finding a female follower mod that isn't any of the big ones on here, how about a piece of male eyecandy instead? Hoth is damn handsome to look at. His reasons for following you are extremely believable; he's a merc, and a bounty hunter. His back story is fairly deep, his voice acting is fantastic (though very american for Skyrim...), and he is a tank to shame all others. He grows on you, much like a tick..which I am sure he has plenty of.

And the list goes on and on. They aren't whores, but they ARE blank slates, which is the main reason I'm not into vanilla followers.

 

Sofia is really the only one I can think of that really stands out as a total hoar. And with her, I can't see how that was anything other than the modder's intention. Not with dialogue like this:

 

"Yipee! I love holding onto people's junk!"

"I love getting taken from behind ... I mean ... taking people from behind ... I mean ... sneaking up on people! Yeah, that's what I meant."

I'd like to point out that although Arissa is a thief, it also adds a good amount of roleplay and interesting convorsations with her if you play a lawful good type of character. I myself played a lawful good kind of guy, but picked up Arissa anyway. if you continue with her, she gains more and more respect for you, and you can do her quest to make her possibly your best friend.

Its pretty fun, trying to keep Arissa out of trouble. Making sure to keep her from robbing everyone blind. Plus her commentary is arguably the best I've seen on the Nexus, and possibly my favorite follower all around!

Though to be perfectly honest with you, the best skyrim companion I've ever had, bar none, is Serana from the Dawnguard DLC. I just haven't had any other companion on par with her, even if her vanilla appearance isn't amazing there's hundreds of mods that make her look better. sorry for the double post but I forgot to add this bit in there.

While I can understand your reasoning for calling a particular NPC(Sofia is a pretty good example) a prostitute, you can't bash people's works left and right, calling them whores and so on, and then actually expect a modder to even WANT to work with you. Now I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just pointing things out. But then you call someone an ass just because they suggest some male eye-candy? How are they supposed to know you're even male let alone straight? Mabe they thought you were bi, maybe they thought you were a woman, but the point is, insulting people left and right, modders AND people attempting to actually help you names is... Well, insulting.

 

Yes, a lot of the follower mods on the nexus have no real back story. Yes a lot of them have little personality, and yes, maybe you don't like them, but I'm sure the people who made them like them, and obviously plenty of other people like them too, otherwise they wouldn't be the "big followers" on the nexus. If your goal is to be insulting, then fine, you've succeeded, but that's neither the kind of attitude that is appreciated on the nexus, nor is it tolerated by the modders, by the rest of the community, or by the Moderators; and quite frankly I'm finding myself agreeing with Oubliette.

Actually, I just am of the opinion that there is PLENTY of heterosexual male eye candy out on the Nexus. Whether it be follower mods, or armor, or npcs added. There is no shortage of it. I had looked past the language in the OP post, and figured I'd suggest one of my favorite followers, and easily one of the best on the Nexus; Hoth has character, a unique back story, a totally unique purpose and function, and interesting and rather comical dialogue. Plus, he IS rather pretty to look at; eye candy indeed. If you get fed up with Ceri, Arissa, Sofia and the like, well...you've shot down the most endorsed, prettiest, and least slOOtiest female follower mods out and about; the ones that have been proven through trial, at least.

 

I guess my suggestion, OP, would be to get your head out of your ass. If you want female eye candy, role reverse. Roll a sexy female character and make her as slOOty as you want, and pick a male follower (Like Hoth, or Inigo) instead.

 

EDIT: Though you went and insulted me, and honestly, right pissed me off, I'm still going to offer one other suggestion; get the Marriagable Serana mod, and the one that makes her hood AI better. Honestly, she is the best female follower in my opinion. She's pretty, witty, dependable, radiant AI, few bugs, and you can marry her and unlock some interesting new dialogue with that mod.

If you are going to bash a mod then at least get the quotes and mod intention right. Now anyone knows that she is meant as a comic relief type character (it's in the mod title), the bumbling female sidekick who thinks highly of herself and talks a load of sh*t with an alcohol problem. The mod does rely on some use of adult humour and accidental innuendo/double entendre but that does not make her a prostitute as the intended meaning of what she says is supposed to be open to interpretation which is the joke. She doesn't mean it in the sexual context but has a bad way of wording things or messing up or just being plain awkward. I mean take the example you gave "Yippee I love holding people's junk". Junk = stuff, nothing sexual or out of the ordinary about that until you distort its meaning because it's also a slang term. She obviously means it in the casual sense of look at all this junk I have to carry with me. She is in no way designed to be a prostitute and if you see it that way then I can only suggest that you are ignorant or need to get a sense of humour or at least understand other people's.

 

As for finding a mod that suits you, well I think you pretty much blew that request as any capable mod author such as myself is not going to help you with that attitude. You have basically said you hate every single follower mod. You have dismissed all the top voiced ones, and their characters are very varied and said you don't like purely cosmetic ones so I'm afraid you are out of luck.

As stated above. You should really research a mod before making such statements.

I apologize if I offended you in any way, it was not my intent. Sofia is a comprehensive follower mod with custom voice acting, something not enough follower mod authors put the time or effort into and the mod itself obviously took hours, if not whole days of actual modding. While she may not be a my type of follower, I can respect and appreciate the time and effort put into it.
