newvelaric
Hi, I need serious help for this quest. I am restarting Oblivion for the second time and have reached Bravil. I was able to inititate the quest, I found the watchman, and he led me to the hill overlooking the "Mouth of the Panther". Unfortunately, he will not reveal to me his name which would initiate the next part of the quest. He would just stand there and do "looking" motions. I have stood with him through many nights but the quest would not continue... In my previous game, I had no problem with this quest. So can anyone advise me what I should do next? Thanks in advance! o_O
Malchik
Have you added any mod that may be conflicting? I have not experienced the problem. If needs be you can advance the quest by using the console but there are dangers in that (discussed elsewhere on the forum). Other things to ask - Is the quest showing in your journal? It has an entry which reads something like 'I have found the watchman, I should follow him etc.' IIRC that entry is not essential to continuing with the quest but it may be. If you don't have it try waiting at Bawnwatch camp and following him again. You could also try going to the ship and seeing if it advances the quest anyway. Unfortunately, I have added a few mods to the game. I mostly use the more popular ones thinking that since other people have added them and have not had any problem, why should I? The quest is showing in my journal, the latest one is: "I have found the watchman, I should follow him". Which I did, multiple times and at different hours. I even tried to reload many times to no avail. Going to the ship does not advance the quest at all. I have a bad feeling I might have to restart my game from scratch for a second time. But just to know, where should I go to read about the pros and cons of using console to advance a quest?
Sticky Mick
How far away are you standing from him? I had a similar problem and decided to walk up and kill the ignorrent b**ger. As I approached he automatically turned and began speaking to me. Although I have had one or two other quests that didn't work properly, the Rockshatter Mace quest didn't complete even though I had the mace in my inventory and I spoke to the woman who wanted it in the cottage. Malchik
With the quest as active, open the console and type SQT. This should let you see the stage of the quest you have reached. Generally to advance it you add 10 to the number, so type into the console SetStage then the quest ID number and then whatever number is showing plus 10. Otherwise check out the Script in the CS. To do this open any NPC and look where it says 'script'. This will list all possible script options. When you find the one you want click on the three dots next to the script box and the script wil be displayed. It should show the various stages of the relevant quest. To find the previous discussion I would try searching for Quest ID. The dicussion was I am sure in August.
