legoman600
I have created a simple modifcation in GECK and saved it to the the data folder , even though the file appears in the GECK , it doesn't seem to appear in the data folder and I am unable to run in in Fallout New Vegas . Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?
Hofstadter
If you've never created a mod before, you probably need to go to the Data folder, right-click > properties > security, and give yourself administrator editing permissions.

Also u are sure u did not set any other file as the active one ? -Exo

When saving teh file (called underground.esp) the window shows all my previous attempts with a lock icon , contrary to any of the mods i have donwloaded. However when i close the Geck and open the data folder none of my mods show up.I have full control over the folder and there is no apparent error when saving in the GECK. Hofstadter
When I first starting modding, I had this same problem. The mod would appear in the GECK, but not when I actually open the Data folder in explorer. I had to go to the security permissions and give editing permission to not only my own user name, but every group my username belonged to (CREATOR OWNER, Administrators, Users) before it would allow me to save my files to the data folder. Have you tried this? And then opening GECK and saving the mod again?
