ThingTheWiz
Having played the game & DLC's through several times I'm about to embark on an all mage campaign (with other party members as and when needed for their quests). Here are my thoughts so far : Principal character : Arcane Warrior - offense via 3 Primal Domains of fire, ice and lightning (mind blast also a must - then developing the tree to add force filed and, later, crushing prison) Morrigan : Blood Mage - offense via Entropy Domains (mind blast also a must); will also probably go for the Mana Drain tree to build up to Mana Clash for use against heavier mages; Wynne : Spitit healer - buffing, healing via Creation and Spirit Domains (mind blast also a must); also Rock Armour through to Petrify Leliana : Spirit Healer as a backup to Wynne (particularly Revival, plus a few add-ons like Grease (as a complement to Fireball), mind blast also a must Leliana will be the least developed of the mages as I want her to also develop lock-picking and trap detection skills I want to avoid re-speccing anyone so as to pure-play it the first time. I'd love to hear reactions, ideas, suggestions for improvements.
Thandal
If you are serious about making it a "Pure Play" the first time through, you'll have a max of 3 Mages. Leliana can follow the Bard path to some spell-like abilities, ("Songs") but can't be a Spirit Healer. Same limitation on an All-Rogue Party, three is the max: PC, Leli, Zev. Warrior is the only class which could have four at once: PC, Sten, Oghren, Alistair/Loghain.

Hi Thandal and thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious........ :wallbash: I really want to try a runthrough with 4 mages so I'll respecc one of the companions with a friendly raven 8). I guess that means having to occasionally bring in Leliana or Zevran for lock-picking, and trap detection may well have to go out of the window or be covered by casting Lifeward when I think I'm coming up to a trap. Thandal
Yeah, I really want an All-Rogue group, but would be missing too much banter if I cut down on the number with me!
