Oblivion stuttering

First of all, i want to say that im NOT using any overhaul mods, no FCOM, OOO, MMM, nor QTP3 exept Unique Landscapes and better cities.

The problem i have is after few seconds of playing my fps drops from about 20-30 to 13-14. Can't play like that. I can post my load order:

Okay, now, i looked at the debug text and it's constantly using 351 megs of texture memory.

My system specs are:

Geforce 8600M GS (It says 256 mb DDR2 dedicated memory and 2047 mb of total available graphics memory in Nvidia system information)

I have also overclocked the card for 30% performance which did help a bit in Oblivion about 3-4 fps :)

4 GB RAM

2GHZ Dual core with Windows 7 64bit Gamers edition

About 360 Gigs of free space out of 500gb HDD

 

And there is this question i want to ask, what the hell is BSTask in TDT? I mean i have searched the whole internet about it and didn't find an answer!! Because stuttering kinda comes when BSTask STAYS at about 46 or something, i mean it has gone up to 250 but it always comes down real quick back to zero, like it loads the thing and thats it, but when it stays then it hoorray lag fest!

Savegame size is 10 megs.

 

I have tweaked the Ini file and i have reversed the settings, nothing helped. I'm using screeneffects "mod" also, does this make me lag?

OOH, by the way, the graphics with what i play are:

1024x640 resolution, widescreen

Textures: Large

The fades are about 15-20%

LOD enabled

Shadows are completely disabled

Antialiasing Disabled

A graphics card with only 256MB of DDR2 memory is just not going to cut it with Oblivion and all of those mods, I'm afraid. Time to dust off your wallet/purse.

Ah, i knew someone would say that, but still with such graphics? I have turned everything down, man i have played crysis on medium with this. And i dont even have biggest overhauls installed! Besides, i said i get to play about 20-30 secs on normal little below 30 fps inside and outside before it just randomly drops and stays. It sometimes goes away if i click wait button or go to inventory :)

You cannot compare Oblivion with Crysis, it is an older game and a different game engine. A heavily modded Oblivion is one of, if not the, most graphic intensive games there is. People with very high-end machines very often struggle with fps below 30, so you're not alone. Your graphis card really is not up to a heavily modded Oblivion, end of story.

Hickory already answered your question but I'd like to point a few things out as well.

 

You're using two of the most demanding "overhauls" available; Better Cities and Unique Landscapes. Even with 1GB DDR5 video memory you can have FPS problems in those areas affected by the previously mentioned mods. A card with 256MB is really gonna struggle.

 

Also where is your Bashed Patch? You have mods that require a Bashed Patch yet I don't see one? You also have outdated mods that should be removed, such as the SSSB Patch for Thieves Den. I see others as well. Some of the mods you have can be replaced by Bashed Tweaks within a Bashed Patch, such as Chameleon No Refraction. I'm sure I could go on but I'm simply going to suggest you start reading more information about your mods and check the BOSS.log for notes about upgrades.

 

You could reduce the amount of mods and improve your LO with a little time and effort. I'm still confused as to how you're getting by without a Bashed Patch though. :wacko:

Because i'm not using Wrye Bash, just OBMM. I find wrye to be too difficult :D

I will try to remove Unique Landscapes and will see if it improves something :)

Yes I see that,... but you have mods that require a Bashed Patch to work correctly. So without a Bashed Patch your install is improper and not fully functional. It's time you learn Wrye Bash. I don't see how anyone can get by without Wrye Bash. It's far too great of a tool for modding Oblivion.

 

I mean you can spend a some hours of reading to learn the basics of Bash and you'll benefit tenfold. There is plenty of information out there to learn the ins and outs of Wrye Bash. You just need to put some time and effort in.

GDDR2 OUCH! Your main problem isn't even the amount of video memory, it's the fact that it's very very slow memory.

 

Avoid anything with big textures in it at all costs.
