I can't get Q&T Depth of Field to work

lovender

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the OMOD version.

When i be questioned to use sm3 shader, i tried the both yes/no answer. But still i think the mod didn't work as i don't see any differences.

I tried the low, medium & high quality also. It didn't work.

When i used the non-OMOD version the ground became purple.

Pls help. Kudos to u.

Did you check the shaders folder to ensure OBMM is actually installing the shader? If so try adjusting the variables and see if there is a difference.

The second thing you mention, purple ground, is a result of corrupt shaders. So maybe the package you are downloading should be avoided.

I use the Depth of Field Shaders associated with OBGE and love them. There are a couple versions and all are tweakable through and support plugin with an ingame configuration. Or you can adjust the actual shader file (.fx) outside of the game also if you don't want to use the plugin. I strongly suggest you check into Oblivion Graphics Extender. It does many more great things other than Depth of Field.

Good luck.

Yea, and another reason why you should use the OBGE shaders is because Q&T DoF besides land, makes your sky look blurry too, so if you use mods that make your sky beautiful at night then i recommend to avoid this mod ^^

Uhuhuu...

At the first install, my game hang...

I think that's bcos i install all the OGE files to Shaders folder...

I also put the d3dx9......files to Oblivion folder.

But then when i try to use only Depth of Field & Godrays, my "smooth" graphic becomes "jaggy"...

So, for now i decide not to use OBGE...

Have to recover from my shock first...I was affraid cannot turn back to old "smooth" graphic... :wallbash:

OBGEv2 is a very complicated installation and should only be used if your confident in your abilities to mod and configure files (shaders need to be updated outside of the main file, you have to create your own shaderlist.txt with the shaders in proper order, etc). It is also a huge FPS hog (expecially SSAO) and i wouldent recommend using it without a HIGH END System (id recommend a 5.9 WEI score in Vista or 7.0 or higher in Win7)

The original version of OBGE is a way easier installation and it also doesnt eat nearly as much FPS.

Keep in mind as well that some shader replacements dont remove thier alterations of the shaders after a OBMM uninstall (OBMM would require a backup funcionality for this as it simply cant just delete the shader as it does with meshes/textures/sound). I have a Nighteye shader replacement myself that when installed through OBMM works 100%, but after a "uninstall" the effect it added is STILL THERE and i have to replace the shader myself). Pretty sure that water reflection blur does the same thing.

Default Oblivion shaders are available here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20348

The reason for this is because you cannot use Anti-Aliasing with OBGE due to the way the effects are used. However there are options to overcome this that work very very well. I currently use the NormalFilterAA.fx (NFAA) shader for OBGEv2 and it works great. It removes the "jaggies" and provides a very good simulated AA effect with no noticeable performance impact.

At the first install, my game hang...

This hang is simply the shaders and ini loading. This is only a few seconds with most shaders. The only ones that cause a significant pause are the SSAO_perf and SSAO_test shaders. Those are also the performance hogs. Use the Ring_SSAO.fx. Very little to no performance impact. Read on for more information.

No no no.... it's not complicated please don't toss false information about. You simply download the OBGEv2 Core Package. Then you install the Shaders Package. Both of these downloads are found at the TESNexus OBGEv2 Page. You simply extract them to your data folder just like any other mod. Then you activate the Oblivion Graphics Support Plugin.esp in your Mod Manager of choice. Once you do this you simply open the configuration item from ingame and activate or deactivate the shaders you want, then tweak their settings to your liking. There is no need for a shaderlist.txt file with the support plugin. Unless you simply want to use a shaderlist instead of the plugin for whatever reason.

The only shaders that cause any noticable FPS hit are the SSAO_perf.fx and SSAO_test.fx. Next in line would be the CellShader+EdgeAA.fx shaders. Those will seriously drop your FPS depending on your rig. All other shaders have very little impact. So a "High End" system is hardly needed. I currently use Godrays.fx, Ring_SSAO.fx, Depth of Field.fx, NormalFilterAA.fx, and Screen Effects. I also have other mods like Realistic Health and Enhanced Seasons that use OBGE. With these 7 or 8 additional shaders I have 0 performance impact on a modest PC, hardly high end.

Specs, nothing special.

AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ OC @ 2.5 Ghz

4GB DDR2 Corsair XMS RAM.

XFX RADEON HD 5770 GPU

Again, false. If anything OBGEv2 is more user friendly than ever before with the implementation of the shader plugin and the two separate download packages for the Core and Shaders. Also no reason to create a shaderlist.txt that many people struggled with. The documentation is also consolidated into one easy to use HTML file instead of scattered about in 4 or 5 text files. More user friendly.

Keep in mind as well that some shader replacements dont remove thier alterations of the shaders after a OBMM uninstall (OBMM would require a backup funcionality for this as it simply cant just delete the shader as it does with meshes/textures/sound). OBGEv2 does not alter any original shaders, it only adds additional shaders that you can use. The mods you refer to are replacements and are not associated with OBGEv2. So just like any other replacement yes you should keep a backup because the original data will be lost. It's just like a texture replacer. Big difference between replacer and addition. OBGE is additions, not replacers.

So in the end OBGEv2 is more user friendly then it ever has been before. There are also many more shaders available than in the past and many of them don't alter performance at all, or very minimally. I strongly suggest it as a download and wouldn't play without it.

@ Smooth613:

Whoaa, such a very long reply from you, Smooth613....But that's very useful!

I currently use the NormalFilterAA.fx (NFAA) shader for OBGEv2 and it works great. It removes the "jaggies" and provides a very good simulated AA effect with no noticeable performance impact.

I still can't get the good / right Tweaks for the NFAA, to make it as smooth as the one without OBGEv2.

Too much options i think; there are: FilterStrong, FilterSpread, Use Color, Debug....Oh, man!

Maybe you'd like to share your Tweaking, Smooth613???

Also, maybe bcos i use ForceFullLOD to always enable high quality graphic for the trees, the trees far far away looks like "jaggy-dancer" from a far.

Should i disable it in Oblivion.ini??

But i AGREE if OBGEv2 said to be "user friendly" after the update; the Core & Shaders Package!

Of course when it's not updated yet, i agree to say that OBGEv2 is very complicated.

Anyway, Kudos to all of you that shared your thoughts.

Now i can get the OBGEv2 to work.

Only need a Tweaking Guides to maximize it... :woot:

Yeah it was a little long but there was so much misinformation being tossed about I felt I had to clear it up.

As far as the jaggies with NFAA. You'll never get the same results as true AA. Again NFAA or EdgeDetectAA is a simulated effect, not true AA. So you just have to settle for slightly less quality AA or not use OBGE. At higher resolutions I cannot tell the difference between 4x AA via Hardware and the NFAA filter for OBGE. I play at 1680 x 1050. I'd much rather have all the great effects of OBGE and slightly less quality AA then great AA and no OBGE effects. That's my 2 cents.

So i was misinformed in stating myself that SSAO eats fps?

Was i also misinformed about how some shader replacesments make permanent changes to your shaders? Which QTDoF actually DOES modify so how about we fix that before we start tinkering with another mod.

Btw a 7.3Graphics card, 7.0 for your ram (Assuming its 800mhz), and a 5.2 Processor actually is a higher end system for playing Oblivion. Sure its no Hexacore with 8GB of 2000Mhz DDR3 and 2x 5970's but i would define that as top-of-the-line not high end.

Yes OBGEv2 is a great mod expecially since it was updated (I was running version 3 and i was using SSAO+Godrays at 1980x1200) now lets name 1 mod thats more complectated to use then it is. Better Cities is imo easier to use and it is itself described as being for moderate-advanced users.

Yea, i play at 1680 x 1050 too.

But i always use 8x AA via Oblivion Launcher Options. That's why i could feel the difference between 8x AA & the NFAA filter for OBGE.

AA via Hardware didn't have any effect on my PC, cos when i turn-OFF the AA via Oblivion Launcher & turn-ON the AA via hardware, i still can see the jaggies.

Oh, btw...is DoF work in interior? I still cannot see the effect inside the bedroom / church.

Thanks, guys...
