  1. Posting every single mod you have ever installed without following prerequisites/due processes/LOAD ORDERS doesnt help. Pretty much NONE of the above mods will cause said crash and work fine until inexperianced users INTRODUCE a conflict. I myself have >>CAUSED<< this crash via AFT+FLP Framework+Convenient horses+Anna NPC's with a dog follower that essentially registered as a "human" follower and he tried to ride a "nearby" horse. NONE of those mods caused this problem until I configured, messed around with, MCM settings. Took 15 seconds to fix. Further you seemingly have XP32 AND XPMSE AND CUSTOMSKELETON REPLACERS...so well...hmm...It shouldn't be very hard to determine what is causing the CTD, right behind you, in the cell your in. Also some followers come prepacked with their own skeleton, at which point you need to replace their skeleton with the one provided via XPMSE. The above list of mods also seems incomplete. Nuances are important. Btw, this wont magically fix your problem, but have you run FNIS? Ya know...process..
  2. Yes but Oblivion already as stock doesn't render whats actually behind your character which is good. I want that effect for Objects/Chars that are already in front of you. Ill explain again, if u have 15 companions tagging along with as long as your not looking at them you get a massive fps boost, but if u put those 15 companions behind a wall and look right at the wall, Oblivion interprets this as looking at the wall AND the 15 companions (plus any objects that may be behind it while you are looking at it). If they were only rendered when you actually are "seeing" them this could improve fps globally. When you spin your character around the GPU already has to render new items but a lot of items that you cant even see that are behind objects are rendered as well. Try this, place 10 animated fountains in front of your character, your fps will decrease, now look 180* away from those fountains, the fps will increase, now stick a wall in front of those 10 fountains (you cant see the fountains) your fps will still go down as if the wall wasn't even there. This is what i mean by rendering what the screen sees, if you cant see it it shouldn't be rendered. The fps couldn't possibly suffer from this as Oblivion renders new items as soon as you turn you screen as is (u can find this out with the console and tdt commands), but it renders objects you cant see just because you are looking in that direction. This is exactly why indoor fps is so much higher then outdoor, as indoors there is nothing behind that wall, but outdoors there is. Hope that clears it up. Would be a very hard project im sure and nearly impossible but the same can probably be said for mods. As for "Loading area screens" those can be removed with OSR i believe and decent hardware. I can run with a speed of 250 clear across tamriel without a single "loading screen"
  3. I was wondering if its possible to make a mod that forces Oblivion only to render graphics that actually appear onscreen (a companion/object/etc behind a wall will still be loaded and take up system time/resources). I think that this effect exists in WoW and i think COD4MW which is why those games are so PC friendly. Tons of people in the community are always complaining about outdoor fps which i think that Oblivion rendering what you cant see to be the #1 culprit. This is my most wanted mod and could open up a whole new realm of possibilities for players and modders alike. In otherwords take 15 Companions/Duplicates/whatever, when they are "behind" you your fps will go up, but if they are behind a wall your looking at Oblivion interprets this as if they are standing right in front of you and eats fps. Id like something that prevents this without sacrificing aesthetic quality. A huge project im sure but well worth it.
  4. -Have you tried DISABLING ALL mods and running Oblivion as vanilla? and if it Runs re-activate your mods 1 at a time to find out if its actually a problem with a mod. If it still doesnt run follow Bben's Reinstall Procedure, as Smooth stated earlier, and try to run VANILLA, do not go installing mods until you verify the game actually loads to begin with. This means Installing Oblivion on a clean folder not a folder loaded with files that may be causing your issues. 1.Re-install Oblivion with above method 2.Install SI 3.Install SI Patch 4.Dont do anything else and see if the game runs. 5.Report here how that went for ya 6.Now start installing your mods 1 at a time. Load the game after every addition to check if it will crash (Probaly best to start with OBSE and additions to OBSE and make sure Oblivion has been upgraded) 7.If u find a mod that causes you to crash, Start a new thread about that exact mod so THAT problem can be diagnosed by tech support. 8.If you want to continue installing mods while you wait for reply's to step 7, make sure u remove all associated files with the mod that caused you to crash and continue from step 6. Repeat steps 6, 7, 8 as necessary If problems persist: -With a thread this long and with problems to this extent you should probably re-install your whole system, wipe your partitions and reinstall Windows reinstall and reinstall your drivers assuming you have the disks and reinstall Oblivion. If Tes4lodgen has been detected as a virus then either your using a bunk antivirus program or downloading. -In the future follow the readme's to all mods u may install a lot of mods have dependencies on OTHER mods and those must be installed, Fearsome Magicka is a good example of this as it requires 5 different mods to be installed and running properly before it in turn will run properly...sure you could just drag and drop it in your Oblivion folder without the requirements but that isnt going to be a happy ending. -If Tes4lodgen and KotN are being detected as viruses u have a lot more going on then just a "bad mod" and it is my opinion that your system is infected/corrupt. Its my opinion that you should re-install your OS (And if you use Vista or Win7 they should find any drivers u may need automatically although that doesn't work 100% of the time especially with older pc's or if you lack a Ethernet driver, DOH!). -After that i suggest using Avira and/or Malwarebytes (You can run them together seamlessly). IObit's Advanced System Care may help you too. After your get Vanilla Oblivion running install your mods ONE AT A TIME. That way if you game suddenly crashes when u activate it you will be able to find out whats causing it. Then you can post a NEW topic about how THAT SINGLE MOD may not be working for you and tech support will be able to help. Installing 20-300 mods immediately after you installed Oblivion, crashing, then asking for help is not exactly a good stratagem when trying to discern which one is causing a crash, when all it might be is your missing a requirement for another mod.
  5. Ok i highly doubt having that second screen up is causing the issue but hey you never know. When you installed Catalyst + the Drivers did you get a Green Checkmark saying they installed successfully with no errors. Testing your gpu with CCC in the overdrive tab couldent hurt either. Some cards, even brand spanking new, can be faulty right out of the store. PC stores like to charge re-packing fees for a reason, they re-pack cards some1 else may have cooked and the card may show a screen, but that does not mean that it still works properly. Did you try to re-install once u had only 1 screen enabled? Uninstall the game and make sure the Oblivion directory you installed to is removed. Also make sure the Directory in my documents/my games/oblivion is removed. Disconnect your other screen then restart. After you re-install if your 1 of the users who gets the black screen that seems to hang there DO NOT CLOSE IT. Oblivion is configuring your DirectX. If you close this before it completes its doomed to fail,on some systems it can take about 10Minutes(and it may seem like it stopped responding), on others it can be instant. If that doesnt work you can try to follow Bben's Reinstall Procedure PS. Try to be a little more descriptive of the problems/solutions you may have tried to implement. Stating "i tried disabling the second monitor but Oblivion still crashes on startup" says to me you only disabled that screen and loaded the game omitting the re-install if your reinstalled Oblivion and followed steps in previous posts i should have read "I reinstalled oblivion with the second screen disabled" or similar.
  6. Yes disable the second monitor ESPECIALLY if the graphics adapter on the secondary display is not the same adapter as your primary (AKA if your mixing nvidia/ati/matrox/intel video cards). As a general rule of thumb it is best to only use 1 brand of display adpater (Either stick with nVidia or ATi) multiple mismatched adapters/drivers can cause all sorts of problems. Otherbrand adapters are not gaming cards even if they have the required memory size does not mean they can run. (ive had very bad experiences with intel based video cards and trying to game on them) On another note Oblivion usually detects when your primary display adapter has changed when loaded from Oblivion itself (Not from OBSE or OBMM) which make me think this may be a incompatibly between your 2 graphics adapters If your graphics adapters are both nVidia based you may need to configure the "Multi display/Mixed Gpu acceleration" in the nVidia control panel of which the options consist of: Single display performance mode Compatibly performance mode Multi Display Performance mode I myself run 3 screens and encounter no problems with Oblivion. My Primary Runs off of 2 Crossfired ATi HD 5770's as does my secondary. My tertiary screen runs off of a Onboard ATi 4290. (I would do eyefinity but my secondary and tertiary screens are just crt's)
  7. Ive had this happen to myself as well but it usually happened after i used a specific animation mod and had the "spell" reflected back at me while i was in 1st person (some can also do this to if your char is in mid animation and you switch into first person while the animation is playing). Id attempt to use a "reset animation" feature if you have 1 while you are IN first person and see if that clears it up.
  8. These should run together as they are both Official DLC's. When problems like this arise you could always disable 1 and see if the other runs fine without it and vice versa could also be a problem with your load order (Pretty sure KOTN should be loaded after Battlehorn) Make sure to update yor Archive Invalidation as well Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN) http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/loadorder.html BOSS is a wonderful tool for load orders available here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 Follow the instructions via the readme
  9. Which shaders are u using? Some actually can add what you could define as "jaggies" CelShader+EdgeAA Adds a cartoon-like black edge to objects. Sharpen can also make things look more jagged especially the shadows. You will have to customize the shaders and choose which ones u actually want to use to get your desired effect. (So easy isnt it :whistling: ) I only use SSAO, DoF, Godrays, and HLSLColorgraging myself and have no issues using hardware AA (NormalFilterAA is about = to 2xAA imo)
  10. So i was misinformed in stating myself that SSAO eats fps? Was i also misinformed about how some shader replacesments make permanent changes to your shaders? Which QTDoF actually DOES modify so how about we fix that before we start tinkering with another mod. Btw a 7.3Graphics card, 7.0 for your ram (Assuming its 800mhz), and a 5.2 Processor actually is a higher end system for playing Oblivion. Sure its no Hexacore with 8GB of 2000Mhz DDR3 and 2x 5970's but i would define that as top-of-the-line not high end. Yes OBGEv2 is a great mod expecially since it was updated (I was running version 3 and i was using SSAO+Godrays at 1980x1200) now lets name 1 mod thats more complectated to use then it is. Better Cities is imo easier to use and it is itself described as being for moderate-advanced users.
  11. OBGEv2 is a very complicated installation and should only be used if your confident in your abilities to mod and configure files (shaders need to be updated outside of the main file, you have to create your own shaderlist.txt with the shaders in proper order, etc). It is also a huge FPS hog (expecially SSAO) and i wouldent recommend using it without a HIGH END System (id recommend a 5.9 WEI score in Vista or 7.0 or higher in Win7) The original version of OBGE is a way easier installation and it also doesnt eat nearly as much FPS. Keep in mind as well that some shader replacements dont remove thier alterations of the shaders after a OBMM uninstall (OBMM would require a backup funcionality for this as it simply cant just delete the shader as it does with meshes/textures/sound). I have a Nighteye shader replacement myself that when installed through OBMM works 100%, but after a "uninstall" the effect it added is STILL THERE and i have to replace the shader myself). Pretty sure that water reflection blur does the same thing. Default Oblivion shaders are available here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20348
  12. Firefox actually does eat up a lot of processor time if i leave it open myself it will be eating about 10-20% of all 4 of my processor cores (especially with multiple tabs open) and i would assume that would double on a dual core. This is actually why i prefer to use Chrome as it doesn't eat nearly as much as firefox if i leave it open. On another note have u customized your .ini file for multi-core optimization? bUseThreadedTempEffects=1 for example is default set at 0 and there are many such settings in the .ini
  13. This is probably a issue due to a transformation. The quest may no longer recognize your progression. Even changing your Race can break certain mods. Bugs like this would be expected with Beta's and will not be instantly fixed by updating it. Roll back to a previous save without the Beta active.
  14. Defrag should help and is actually 1 of the most important things to do with Oblivion performance and modding it. ( I defrag Oblivion everyday myself) Im not saying this is the problem but it very well may be, But combat fps optimizer may zap some performance out too while it make changes to your graphics heres a quote i got from the mod: "The changes of the settings will not be set immediatly when a fight starts. It can take up to 10 seconds. This was done to not warn players too early that an enemy is approaching" (Im going to guess that this would kill me in my game after i hit a undead with a weapon with turn undead, combat ends for 2 seconds, combat begins again, in the meantime i highly doubt that fps optimizer would keep up with that without causing more harm then good) Imo running extra scripts to boost performance is counterproductive. It may very well boost the combat fps, but it probaly only does that AFTER it saps fps while it makes the changes. Streamline would probably be a better choice, but you will have to configure it to get it to run how u want. Operation Optimization (optimizes the meshes in Oblivon) on the other hand actually does reduce the workload on your pc same with Oblivion Script Optimization (Optimizes Scripts forcing them to do fewer calculations) As Hickory said dont overlook your security, every single pc i have ever fixed for a friend/customer has had at least 7viruses and holes in the firewall. Full scan with Malwarebytes or Avira (AVG is bunk imo especially the new version that deems World of Warcrafts launcher a virus..) I dont know where "the best" firewall testing site is i just use Shieldsup to make sure im "stealthed". Also never overlook how hot your parts are getting as this too affects performance especially a hot gpu. And im still goin to rag on that graphics card which i believe to be your biggest issue. I would never mod on a card that doesnt at least get 5.9's. Keep in mind a higher model number does not necessarily mean better card. For Example a ATi HD3870 will blow away a ATi HD5450. Im sure nVidia engages in the same crap marketing. Ive also recently tried Vanilla Oblivion on a Geforce 9200 GT 512Mb (that card is 1 model down from yours) and lets just say im not going to be recommending such a card to any1 soon (A 256Mb ATi 3450 owns it, neither of which i deem as playable at max settings on a 1980x1200 screen). If i were you id be looking for a card with a GDDR5 Memory interface or at least GDDR3 (Not DDR3, theres a difference). Video cards are not all that expensive if u know how to shop for them and i could pick up a card that gets a 7.3 Win7 score (Obviously 5.9 capped in vista) for $80CAN. They only get expencive when u buy top model + brand new series (or the computer store rips you off which they try to a lot).
  15. If your speaking of the actual distant land having dots on it this is sort of normal (expecially after the use of something like qtp3) and you will need to download a appropriate texture pack for lod. Some of which can kill your fps. Forcing your trees to load farther and Depth of Field rock for covering this up Also make sure when u re-install to delete the Oblivion.ini in your my documents as it will stay after a un-install, and if a setting has been changed in it, the problem will persist even after a re-install. (Had this happen in my newb days when i tried to force high res lod textures and my lod was loaded right under my char)
  16. Id get rid of Purge Cell Buffers - Loading.esp. Imo thats just going to force a loading screen every time u go through a door or a cell needs to load preventing a instant cell transition, Besides you can do it yourself in the console or set it in the Oblivion.ini without a extra script constantly running. Purging cell buffers is also known to cause more stuttering then performance gain (Stuff that WAS loaded..will have to load again). You also have 4gb of ram..YOU DONT need to purge your buffers ( why purge 256mb when 3gb is still free?) if anything you need Oblivion to allocate more available ram. Enter your console, Type TDT, Type Setdebugtext 13, now pay attention to how much Texture memory is being used. if the value is over what your video card has on it Oblivion will stutter (i used to use a 512Mb 3870, and right after the texture usage went over 500, it would stutter, my new 1GB card fixed that  ) Also if you have excessive drive activity this can also cause Oblivion to stutter. Even a Anti-Virus's Resident shield going through your Oblivion directory can cause performance loss. Id also run a full scan of your system as the mouse not responding is just plain wierd, or its a $20 wireless combo in which case you get what u pay for :wallbash:. A nVidia 9400GT is also a pretty low end card and probably cant even tottally utitilize all 512Mb. Ive had 3 Video cards with DDR2 on them and i hate them all. Seems cards these days need DDR3 or better if you want any real perfromance out of them. Size doesnt matter as much as the speed (keep your mind out of the gutter at this point  ) and the memory bandwidth of your card is a whopping 12Gb/sec. (modern cards are doing 70Gb/sec and high end cards go 250Gb/sec)
  17. NVidia Geforce GT 240 Specs: CUDA Cores 96 Graphics Clock (MHz) 550 MHz Processor Clock (MHz) 1340 MHz Memory Specs: Memory Clock (MHz) 1700 MHz GDDR5, 1000MHz GDDR3, 900MHz DDR3 Standard Memory Config 512 MB or 1 GB Memory Interface Width 128-bit Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 54.4 GB/sec (Should be plenty for Oblivion & HDR) Make sure too that the drivers you use are actually from nVidia especially if it was manufactured by ASUS. I once had a ASUS ATi card and Asus GamerOSD gave me a gray screen bug (The so called bonus software on the asus driver disk can wreak havoc with your game). After i Uninstalled that and re-installed my drivers directly from the Manufacturer the problem i had was fixed. Your NVidia Geforce GT 240 driver is located here for win7 64Bit : http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-260.99-whql-driver.html Win7 32Bit Driver is here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-260.99-whql-driver.html
  18. You re-make the bashed patch by opening up Wyre and right clicking on the Bashed patch and selectiing "Rebuild Patch". As for merging some will already be marked as mergable and u do this in Wyre as well (the option will be available right after u click rebuild patch). Note: once the mod is merged you de-activate the "normal mod" but it will still count towards your esp limit if its still in the data folder. You can also mark mods as mergeable with Wyre (but it can be tricky), in fact you can pretty much do anything with Wyre Keep in mind to that if you want to rebuild the patch again u will need to bring back in the mods you previously merged.
  19. You say the mod u tried to use was enhanced vegetation but you de-activated it. Did you possibly create a second OMOD for the high res/low res textures and forget to deactivate the main file? i ask this because i still see Enhanced Vegetation in your load order. Dunno if its active or not but i assume if its there, then so are files that it added as De-Activating the OMOD would have removed it and all files assosiated with it (unless u did a manual install/uninstall in which case a file might not even be where its supposed to be). All of Enhanced Vegetations archives are OMOD ready and if you have been trying to manually remove it i suggest making a OMOD to remove as it will be REAL EASY to miss a file manually (also very easy to delete a file that wasn't associated with it,again using the OMOD might not fix this if you manually installed and put something where its not supposed to be). Also make sure to update your Archive Invalidation when activating or de-activating almost ANY mod as forgetting to do that can also lead to a crash. (Unless u use Archive Invalidation Invalidated!) Also do u use OCPS (Oblivion crash prevention system)? If you are missing a mesh sometimes OCPS will still allow oblivion to load regardless (but it will DING! letting you know it prevented a crash) and it will write the Event to a log. WORST CASE SCENARIO (Just cant fix it) I hope you keep your downloaded mods backed up as this is VERY useful. Downloading them all again is REALLY going to suck. Uninstall everything (Including Oblivion) and delete the Oblivion folder as that will still have any mods you installed still inside of it. Re-Install and Re-apply your mods you know not to cause any issues. Your Savegame will still be there but dont try to load until all of your mods are applied. Assuming you do save all of your mods this should take very little time.
  20. This worked wonders for my game aside from my .ini tweaks graphics extenders etc.. Oblivion Ram Booster (It allows my game to utilize more available system memory when upping the ipreloadsizelimit didn't really seem to do much) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32405
  21. Emperor: Let me see your face, you are the once from my dreams, the stars were right THIS is the day. Me: Oh god they told me this would happen in jail Guard: your stolen goods are now forfeit Me: "Whew good thing i enchanted them" Captain Burd: Since we had the hero of Kvatch available, I didnt think it made sence to try this out on our own the first time Guard1 whispers to Guard2: "Wasnt Kvatch obliterated?" Guard2 whispers to Guard1: "Uhm yup" Guard1 whispers to Guard2: "We are so dead" (Guard1&2 Die later that afternoon) Captain Burd : Now that we've seen how its done im sure we can handle anymore of these gates Me: Dude, you got knocked out like 20 times and whats with the WE, your friends are lying in a pool of blood. My advice, bring a damn priest next time u noobs need heals. And try not to jump on my sword next time. (After the battle for Bruma i survey the corpses on the field) Me: (Notices arrows stuck in almost every guard) Martin: "We won a great victory here today! we now have the means to recover the amulet of kings from Mankar Camoran." Me: (still noticing the arrows in the corpses none of them being daedric) "I think your more of a threat to yourselves then Oblivion ever was..." Me: (sometimes i think im playing for the wrong team)
  22. Wouldn't be the first time someone was wrongly convicted of a crime. Be thankful your char starts the game with his head still attached  . (now u know where headless zombies come from!)
  23. The name of the mod you tried to install would help in diagnosing what could be wrong. aside from that here is my guess from a previous issue i once had similar to yours (crash after the Bethesda logo). I do not believe this to be a missing master as that crashes before the game even loads, right after OBSE tries to load (on my pc it does anyway) Check your Oblivion directory and see if the mod you actived may or may not have added a .ini file of its own, it may have even modified the oblivion.ini itself which you can delete so a new .ini will be created. The location of your Oblivion.ini is in you MY DOCUMENTS/My games folders DO NOT MODIFY THE OBLIVION.INI in the OBLIVION folder where u installed the game. Some mods create their own .ini's (ex. obgev2). Also check if the mod modified any of your shaders (nighteye shader replacements/water reflection blur/ detect life replacements). Some shader replacements are not compatible with others. The default shaders are located here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20348. You can compare those to the shaders you have and if the file size is different, your shaders have been altered. Quite a few mods that modify shaders dont "un-modify" them after u disable even through OBMM. This could be totally un-related to the issue your having but as i stated earlier the name of the mod which caused this would help ( a crash because you tried to add a sword is COMPLETELY different then say you tried to install Motion Blur, A companion, Worldspace, New spell effect, etc.
  24. Cpuz - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html Gpuz - http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/ Another useful program is HWMon (Hardware monitor) which monitors ALL Thermals provided the part is capable of it. It shows the current Temp's, Minimum temp, and the Max and u can run it in the background to find out just how hot your parts are getting ( they cool off as soon as u alt-tab out of the program so if you try to monitor your gpu's heat on a ATi 5700 series card with catalyst and tab out it will most likely be off by 20* or more, which will be totally inaccurate) HWMon will tell you what the temp actually did hit. HWMonitor - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html NOTE: Parts that dont have a Tempurature sensor wont give you a readout. I.E if your Catalyst control center doesnt show you the heat of your gpu neither will this. These parts are low-grade imo. Here is an example of just how much information HWMon can provide, provided your parts support it:
