Gishank
There's no such thing as an 'external' GPU. Besides, due to the nature of laptops it's unlikely that you'll be able to upgrade the GPU - What is the laptops make and model?

urbex
When you start buying external hardware upgrades for a laptop, it's time to get a desktop.

evildead789
depends what the cost is of that thingie. Your laptop cpu isn't that groovy but your gpu is a lot worse so i can understand your motives. I looked up some threads about it and it seems to work fine so it's worth the try and you can always use the videocard you bought in a future desktop or maybe even your future laptop. because that stuff is just a holder/connector for a normal videocard Edited November 28, 2010 by evildead789
Sinophile
why would i play £500 - £1000 on a new desktop with high specs when all i need to replace is my graphics card on my laptop? than i can use my laptop for both work and entertainment at almost no cost Why do you own a laptop in the first place(instead of a desktop), most likely because it is portable. When you buy external hardware for your laptop, you are essentially defeating the purpose of it's potability. Chances are that in a couple years you'll need other upgrades as well, such as more ram, a new cpu. Moreover, A high-end cell phone(I.E. droid or Iphone 4G), or a netbook can perform most non-gaming tasks that a laptop can do(I.E. surf the internet, watch DVDs). So rather than having a laptop with a bunch of extra peripherals, have either a low-end laptop or an expsensive phone for work etc. and a big-ass desktop for gaming. In the long run(Say, in about 2-5 years), you'll actually save a lot more money.
