OBSE does not and will not ever work with D2D unless D2D makes changes to allow this. Which is highly unlikely. So if you have the D2D version I'm afraid your SOL, unfortunately. :verymad:

 

OBSE doesn't launch with the Direct2Drive version:

 

- The Direct2Drive version of the Oblivion executable has additional DRM applied, which would be illegal for us to bypass. We cannot support this version. If you own a retail version of Oblivion, please use the autopatcher to extract a usable executable.

- Note that if you are interested in buying a digitally distributed version of Oblivion, the Steam version is supported.

I found a work around, no CD-Patch. Won't give more details, but it worked.

a lot of people mention COBL. IO tried in vain for a month to get COBL to work, and using OBMM, Wyre Bash, and bout 15 people helping me, we couldnt' get anything other than a CTD. I am perfectly happy without that mod.

 

look on the list of mod lists for good advice on mods. Some of my favorites are Curse of Hicirne Resurrected and The Lost Spires.

Unfortunate for you but this case had to be user error. And since you had so much help the only thing possible here is you over looked something, like a missing master or resource, or activated a plugin you should only merge. I would consider Cobl installation as advanced to expert. Expert if you go full install with Item Interchange.

 

The mod has always worked fine for me and many other thousands of people so it's not an issue with the mod itself. If it were a problem with Cobl then many many more people would be reporting this and not be able to use the mod. However this is not the case and it's a fully functional mod.

To the OP: Cobl is excellent and has tons of, what I consider, essential features. But as I mentioned it can be a very involved install if you're not familiar with Wrye Bash and more complex installations. Take your time and read the information thoroughly.

I won't contribute any suggestions regarding realism enhancing mods or anything like that, everyone likes different levels of realism. I will put my two cents in though on a couple of mods I'd absolutely recommend. Sorry if I can't remember exactly who each of these is by but you can easily find them at the Nexus.

 

- Vampire Aging Disabled - takes the fugly out of being a vampire without changing the mechanics

 

- Akatosh Mount - because riding a flying dragon over Cyrodiil is cool

 

- Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina - vast deserts, savage tribes, armored elephant mounts...the list goes on

 

- The Lost Spires - very fun artifact quest mod adding an archeology guild (with some slightly painful voice acting)

 

- Heart of the Dead - another great artifact type quest mod with a lot of depth to it, by far one of my favorites.

 

- Druid Mod - adds some awesome nature based powers gained as you level, also some nice creature summons and a werewolf transformation
