Gosh, did people really do that? That's hilarious! I consider myself somewhat of a luddite, and yet I knew what the disc drives were for long before I knew how to use email. Thanks for the lols!

Yes! They did! It was as common as a Grand Parent not knowing how to set the clock on a VCR. Allot of 12 year old's, who are grown up now, are probably having Holiday recollections of visiting, during the holiday and seeing the blinking 12:00 PM signs on VCR clocks.
