Maniac3020
Does anyone think that it's stupid that you can swim while wearing a full suit of power armor? I'm pretty sure that someone wearing a 200 pound metal suit would sink straight to the bottom. Does anyone know a way, like a script command or something, that would make the player not float when wearing power armor, instead having to walk along the bottom? scruples
If the armor weighs 45lbs, it will still float since the armor displaces a great deal of water. ....that weight is probably a lie so lets assume it weighs 150lbs, the reason for this assumption is a fit man can still run around carrying 100lbs of equipment (firefighter, soldier etc). The salvaged power armor has had all its motors stripped yet soldiers still run around with it on (we will assume 50lbs were also stripped off making it closer to 100lbs). 62.4lbs of buoyancy per cubic foot of water displaced.....soooo 155lbs of flesh displaces about 2 cubic feet of fresh water> 124.8 lbs of buoancy for the human body. -25.2lbs of buoyancy If the suit displaces more than 2.5 cubic feet of water in addition to your own body, and I can almost guarantee it does, it will float... (-25.2 + 156 - 150 = -19.2) making it slightly more buoyant than the average human body. That all said, yeah the floating looks dumb....and salvaged power armor shouldn't exist since it should really weigh like 200+lbs making it useless to wear without being powered. Maniac3020
Well, it might be in the realm of possibility for a man to wear a 200 pound suit of armor, if the NCR picks out the ones who are going to be wearing it because they are exceptionally strong. I would imagine they would quickly gain even more muscle from wearing those suits all day, even if they are just standing there most of the time. Although long journeys would be extremely arduous, requiring many long rest stops.
LordNanfoodle
To tell you the truth, NCR Salvaged Power Armor never really made a lot of sense. In-between the times of Fallout 2 and NV (2241 & 2277, respectively), you'd think the NCR, with access to least two, maybe three, GECK enhanced communities that we know of (Shady Sands [?], Vault City, Arroyo), two known mining towns (Redding & Broken Hills [May have gone bust by now]), a working reactor (Gecko), a cabal of scientists (San Francisco), working pre-war tech (Vault 8 &13 [Assuming you don't count water chips]), the possibility of an Enclave treasure trove if the BoS didn't beat them there (Navarro), and the possible aid of the Followers of the Apocalypse, they'd have at least learned to repair or reverse engineer a suit of Power Armor, whether Brotherhood or Enclave, and have at least a handful of functioning suits. As for floating, for it to be protecting you as it claims, it wouldn't seem like it should float. It should have a rebreather function though, seeing as I recall (Advanced Power Armor, at least) claiming to utilize a self-contained recycled air system. I also swore that in old school Fallout PA and APA rendered you immune to radiation, but it may be my archaic memory playing tricks on me.
fronzelneekburm
I'm not a physics expert but i know most navy vessels are made of many tons of solid steel and still swim. Maybe it would be more realistic to "sink" the player, but keep in mind that this would lead to players just unequipping power armor before they swim. WOuld it be more realistic to not sink when you have the 45 lbs power armor "in your pocket"? I'd think if you're honest you'd let the player sink like a stone if he has more than 30 lbs in his inventory or so. Well to make it short - its maybe not THAT realistic but for sure more "playable". Maniac3020
I know Navy vessels, and really any large ship, are really heavy, but their weight is spread out over the water in a shape that is designed to float. Power armor is a lot denser, with it's weight spread over a much smaller surface area. I know WW2 marines who had to jump out of their landing craft sank to the bottom if they couldn't get their gear off, and that gear doesn't weigh nearly as much as a suit of Power Armor. I also think it would be cool to walk along the bottom of a lake or river.
