Malchik
It is a widely reported assertion, though I have no idea whether it is supported by evidence, that far more males than females play computer games. So presumably most designers of such games are male too. Is this why there is not a single guild leader or Great House leader or 'Royal' leader in MW that is a woman?(Even Almalexia was only one of three and the other two were male.) In the Great Houses, even those Councillors who first support you are male, (unless Crassius Curio is in drag). Women can get close to the top in Morrowind running individual city guilds and becoming Great House Councillors but they never make it to the absolute top. I think Bethesda missed a trick. As a man I find it harder to kill female NPCs than male ones, unless they are quite clearly evil. (Hears cries of 'romantic fool', 'get real' and the like.) I could never kill poor Sotthilde. Am I the only one? If some of those Guild Leaders I had to off had been women - well... I notice that mods are introducing new 'guilds' for women but how about a mod for equality? Switch
It's probably just that equality hasn't been entirely addressed yet in the world of Tamriel... a woman can raise to a fairly high rank in a guild but people think it ludicrous for a woman to actually LEAD a guild. Something like that? *Shrugs*
Reborn87
ok im gonna post two opinions here so that there is no way that i can be considered sexist :) 1. Since Morrowind seems to be a pretty ruthless place without morals for the most part, perhaps the woman just don't have it in them to kill their leader as many of the male leaders have done to raise to their stations. Perhaps the woman of tamriel place a higher value of human (and non-human) life 2. Maybe they're just not skilled enough, or maybe they are just too weak to accept higher stations :)
Mojlnir
There are numerous shop owners, craftspeople, innkeepers and warriors in Morrowind who are women. I would not cross those female warriors inside the Ghost Gate for all the kwama eggs in Morrowind. I also would venture to guess that many of the hierarchical systems on Tamriel are historically paternal in nature, and that we are witnessing the birth of a new societal structure. Women on Tamriel are advancing themselves every where you look, rising to positions of power in Guilds and on ruling committees. As far as gamers are concerned, I think the stereotype is shifting there as well. It may be true that the majority are still male, but these forums clearly show that women engage in roleplaying games and take them quite seriously as well. I would love to see more women as programmers and game designers, and I hope to God they get paid the same as their male counterparts.
DreamOfTheRood
Yes, it warms my heart to know that I belong to a fine tradition of being white, male and rich. It truly is a wonderful thing. However, I can think of at least one woman who is higher in the hearts of the people than any Guild master: the Nerevarine. Oh, and Azura. How about Almalexia? And Vivec, sometimes? frasil
Oddly enough, despite the medieval 'feel' to the Morrowind society, I haven't heard any dialogues or quests revolving around a woman opressed exclusively because of her gender. Though inequality seems to linger, I've never seen a mage being chided by her fellow guilds-men for being a woman, or an assasin considered less able (quite the contrary). The ironic part of it is, with so much male and female adventurers running around, and no children to be seen, you have to wonder if there are any families at all? ;)
Marxist ßastard
Well, all elves being selectively fertile probably solves about half that problem. The other half is a mystery. Perhaps non-elven couples are wary of being caught nude by the Ordinators. if you're looking at it from a legal perspective, it's probably because Bethesda themselves would get caught with their pants down if anybody takes offense to the inherient ability to mass-slaughter the children in-game. Drake Crowind
Yes, the children... In daggerfall they had children but not killable children. And as far as the women go... In Daggerfall the women were rulers and really good fighters.Maybe Morrowind is diffrent because I think Daggerfall is ruled by Imperial and MW Isn't... yes, the Imperials... Maybe...
wesaynothin
Possibly it is because Tamriel is a semi-medieval society. Back then, women were oppresed, despite their skills or knowledge. the ppl at Bethesda just tried to keep it as real as they can.
Drake Crowind
But remember as I said, Daggerfall Has many Ruling Women Go look for yourself! Morrowind Isn't ruled by anyone Imperial! (If you all played at least half the game you should know what I mean ;) ) If the women in Morrowind decided to They could probably out-rule the men. And morrowind isn't truly medievil it's partially because I dont remeber any elves or Dwarven machines in History. (Except Arcanum History which would be awesome if it were true) If there were elves they would still be here because not all elves are into hiding. And we do have dwarves just not techno-Dwarves or mabe they are the reason we have cellphones, tvs, ect. WOW! I really didn't think of that! And have you noticed in Daggerfall the naked women? and no naked men unless you undress your character. I mean I dont feel to see other men but It would be a nice thought for the women right?
