Flickering light bug

Recommended Posts

Hey, I haven't played Skyrim in a while but I wan't to get back into it. I have a heavily modded (but stable) Skyrim, however for some reason certain lights seem to only activate when I'm near them, which creates a flickering effect from different sources as I run around a room.

I thought it might have something do with having both ELFX and RLO years ago (I know, I was an idiot), but the issue still persists even after uninstalling RLO.

I have no other conflicting lighting mods so anyone have any idea what that could be? I was told a while ago it could be because even after uninstalling RLO, the nif's still persist in the data files? Any one have any idea which nif's those would be, where to find them, and which ones I should delete, if that is the case?

what is your load order? have you used LOOT? and have you used a save game cleaner? i hear the latter can fix issues like this even if you are going to use a new game. also another way to fix this issue is to uninstall all of your mods and skyrim and delete its steam folder that is left on your computer, then reinstall every thing.

With no mods what so ever, vanilla game + dlc's + official patches only.

I get the same issue in Hearthfires houses, randomly.

Sometimes it's very often, sometimes barely at all.

Most noticeable in the main room with the dinning table where the fireplace is, looking upwards above the fireplace where it meets the floor or looking at the floor in front of the fireplace while moving off in to the armory/kitchen or in to the bedroom/greenhouse.

Also in the back storage room/trophy room, I see light not illuminate the wall around the door when in the room and if you move towards the door you see illumination on the wall flicker on and off.

Pulling the heartfires house into CK and view the house as color spectrum you can see the that luminosity of lights in the whole house is on the verge of saturating ( Violet/Indigo colors close to over saturation, preferable would be Blue/Indigo/green ) the whole house even though there isn't that many lights in the house.

So any mods that add light to the Hearthfires home without disabling original lights will more then likely cause flickering even more so then the default.

Yes I use LOOT, everything else is stable, except in my mission to fix this problem, it seems entering Whiterun turns into an infinite loading screen, even on a new game, and when loading a save IN whiterun, it always crashes to desktop in the square just outside the Tavern. Atleast, that was happening, now it seems when I load the game up, I barely see the Skyrim logo before CTD.

Could anybody take a look at my load order and give me any advice? Thanks in advance! (ps it's a pretty hefty load order so apologies in advance too!)

Looks like ppl are maybe blowing this out of proportion. I just got finished cleaning these up in my own mod. If I recall correctly, this has to do with the number of shadow-casting lights within a certain area, possibly the whole cell is counted. To fix it, you find the offending light and replace it with a non-shadow version. The easiest way I found is to just look at the list of all lights and sort by count and pick one of the "NS" (no shadow) lights thats used commonly.

The reason I say it's no shadow lights is because -- to the best of my recollection -- the problem lights were always the ones with the purple cross in the middle, which I'm fairly certain means it's a shadow caster.
