BooneoftheWasteland
I also hear you can use Victor's shack safely as well. Otherwise you get nothing up until the Novac hotel which after a quest the key will be handed to you or you get it free of charge.
medeasin
First time through, I used the Novac room, which is nice because it's fairly close to the waypoint. I moved into the Lucky 38 suite later because it was fancy and had even more containers (I separate my categories whenever possible after accidentally hitting Take All a couple times too many). The Brotherhood shack was a final favorite though because it is so much closer to the waypoint than the Lucky 38 suite (7 seconds versus 40 seconds on my PC). Plus it had that repair guy and a bench, shelves, bed, and water. But no campfire :-(. On my current second playthrough, I just use the orange dumpster at Goodsprings in front of Chet's shop. It's convenient to pick up "shipped" items from the FedEx box next to it. Plus the two work benches are right around the corner. There's no nearby water or bed but those always seem to come up when I travel anyways. I'm tempted to move and use the empty crates on that porch as well to separate my items. Not sure if they would move themselves back to their original spots though. I also drop off all of my campfire recipe items at Goodsprings Source. There's a silver briefcase on top of a blue car right in front of you at the waypoint (and a campfire directly over that hill). Eventually, after all quests, items and locations are found, I figure I'll set up a display museum of items in the Gomorrah casino around the pole dancers. Back in Fallout 3, I would fill the shelves of the Super Duper Mart up with all the useful and useless junk I found in the Wasteland as an end-game goal.
