Staff BigBizkit Posted March 11, 2015 Staff Share Posted March 11, 2015 Just to verify whether I am doing something wrong. Is it just me or does the CK crash very very often. Sometimes twice in one hour. And I am talking about random crashes not sth like a missing node or sth that would always crash the CK. I thought it happened more often when decorating, but it seems to be rather random when it happens. I hate going back into the CK thinking "oh god when did I last save... oh no..." Mattiewagg
Yes, it does. You can turn on auto saving, though this only works while a window isn't open (other than the default 3). Go to Preferences (white hand icon next to Save on the toolbar) > Misc and enable auto save. I recommend a time of 2 min. For level design esp. with not many windows open, it's very helpful. Staff BigBizkit Posted March 11, 2015 Author Staff Share Posted March 11, 2015 That is definately useful. I usually save after every piece of clutter I placed anyway but sometimes I get courageous and attempt to do three things in a row before saving. ~~
heromaster
If you are using the CK while having many mods installed it will crash more often because all the highres textures, high-poly meshes and incorrect texture size files all will be loaded into the CK. If you don't have get Mod Organizer and create a development profile where you just have the base installation of Skyrim + the mods your mod is depending on. Then your chance is pretty it will never crash. At least with that setup it never crashed again for me. sLoPpYdOtBiGhOlE
I find the main memory leaks in CK is using the Papyrus script compiler from within CK, it's the main reason it crashes so often (for me anyways).I usually avoid using the script compiler from within CK in the instance of the mod I'm working on. I either compile scripts outside of the instance of CK I'm using.eg: open another instance of CK with noting loaded just to use the compiler or use your text editor to compile scripts. The later being more efficient. Other areas of CK to be wary of for crashes is the idles preview when making custom markers or anything that offers the idle preview selection, guaranteed to crash the CK anytime I use it. Another thing I notice even avoiding the above, is the CK eventually fails to draw controls in various edit windows after doing repetitive mundane tasks where you need to change properties 1 by 1 for a 1000+ items individually (Batch doesn't seem a problem, just manually doing it causes it).Eventually it'll pop a message up saying it failed to create controls for a window. Only just before I posted I actually had this happen while doing a straight run fill in on 768 alias for a quest, by the time I got to 700+ mark, it spat the usual Failed to create controls message. No problem as I saved at the 700 mark and I saved along the way every 32 alias I filled. I often find myself spitting profanities at my monitor while shaking my head and thinking "You mean an actual paid company released this piece of crapware in this state.I have seen more stable, user friendly tools written by backyard hacks for no pay that behave better then this."
