Simna
Hej! When I'm trying to patch Shivering Isles to v1.2.0416, I get this message: "Old File not found. However, a file of same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.". What's wrong? I got the same message when I should use the patch that came with Knights of the Nine. Therefore I patched Oblivion with Oblivion_v1.2.0416UK instead, which worked.
Fonger
you're already patched to 1.2.0416 trying to re-patch from 1.2.0416 to 1.2.0416 is an exercise in migraine if you believe you need the other 1.2.0416 patch you need to re-install then use one and only one 1.2.0416 patch. If that doesnt work i would personaly skip it and get the unoffical oblion and shivering ilse patchs instead Oh yeah im not sure but i think if you have the GOTY edition you dont need the officail patches but i could be wrong. No, you need to be patched to the latest version for most mods to work. The unofficial stuff doesn't include the changes made to the game by the official patches. And you're right. GOTY is patched to the latest official patch right out of the box. @ Simna: If you don't have GOTY edition, here's what you should do: Reinstall the game.Install Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.Install any other DLC content. Then download and install one, and only one, patch. If you've got the Shivering Isles installed, download that patch. "But what about patching the regular game" I hear you say? Never fear. The Shivering Isles patch is not just for Shivering Isles. It's actually for the whole game with Shivering Isles. Edited November 20, 2010 by Megatarius
bben46
Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. Also covers patching order.Install Oblivion, then Shivering Isles then the Shivering Isles Patch ONLY. DO NOT install the Oblivion patch!Don't worry about KOTN. The Shivering Isles patch will cover it also.

The unofficial stuff doesn't include the changes made to the game by the official patches. The unofficial patch (series) also requires the 1.2.0416 official patch to work properly. BTW that's any 1.2.0416 official patch
Simna
Thank you guys. I uninstalled the game and then I re-installed it in this order: 1. Oblivion 2. Shivering Isles 3. Shivering Isles to v1.2.0416 patch 4. Knights of the Nine. I have just checked if the game started. It did. But should I have the v.sync box checked? Isn't this just for CRT-screens?What's the difference between Bloom and HDR? Which should I choose?BTW I have a 8800GTS graphics card. Do you have any suggestions of "must have" mods? Megatarius
I don't use either the bloom or the HDR. I see very little real difference. It has to do with how the light is reflected. With HDR, you'll see a lot of really bright surfaces that may or may not be bright in real life. I don't like it. The game without those things still looks awesome on my 9800 GT video card. The lighting was done very well and subtly and it looks good almost all the time. (Unless it's the dungeons having too much light, but that's a design issue. I strongly recommend Let There Be Darkness so the torches and light spells actually have a purpose. I don't know what V.sync is, and whatever it is, I don't use it. You should ditch the Launcher and use OBMM. It allows you to sort your load order, which is necessary for any of the really good mods to work. The game loads mods with the last one taking precedence. However, the Launcher only loads them in alphabetical order, which means you have very little control over what you actually can mod sometimes. Don't rename the mods to force a correct load order, just get OBMM and order them however you want.
Smooth613
I'm just going to pop in and make a suggestion to use Cava Obscura instead of Let There Be More Darkness. Both mods are very similar but Cava Obscura does the job in a much more tasteful way, which produces a much better experience, in my opinion. To sum up how both mods work...-Let There Be More Darkness completely removes ambient lighting from all dungeon type cells. Not good in my opinion since there should be some light in certain places.-Cava Obscura takes a different approach and reduces the ambient light levels to about 10-15% of their original levels. So there is some amount of light in certain situations, such as when there is a window, or hole in the cave. A much better, and more realistic, experience. Combine Cava Obscura with Real Lights from Weather - All Natural and you're in for a truly great experience.
