kibblesticks
Not going to lie, I cheat like there's no tomorrow. "tcl" and "movetoqt" are my favoured modes of travel. "tgm" allows me to explore the entire world with none of that adrenaline pumping fear that I had when playing the console version. Don't get me wrong, I've spent more cheat-free hours than I'd care to mention on fallout and oblivion (not so much with new vegas), but when the game's completed I like to give the world a thorough inspection. Exploring all the storylines and seeing every location without being confined by "health" or "ammunition". The game worlds in themselves are works of art and I'd hate to think I'm missing out on any part of them.
ita
I had to choose Yes, but I only "cheat" in the sense that I use the console to check out items added by mods.
devilpengui
Well I do sometimes cheat for obviously flawed stuff. As it's better for the roleplay. I mean, why do I need to go all the way back to get a key for that frail door while I have the anti-materiel rifle? I just shoot the lock(unlock) and get in. PaladinRider
I never use the console key because Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver doesn't want me to open my tilde key. I can't open console ingame unless I uninstall it every start up, a dumb hassle. I usually only bother uninstalling when developing mods.
METAo0oLURGIST
you are entitled to have your own opinion as do I. I guess we'll just agree to disagree... But yes this is the wrong forum for this thread. I've no idea if this is posted in an appropriate place, and I don't mean to get involved in an argument, but I'm actually working on a mod to support inventory cheating. I find myself managing long lists of item ref ids and ways to add perks i think should be part of my character and removing any I don't like. (I'm about to do that with jury rigging it's throwing my scav economy off big time). I suppose a gym teacher would say if you cheat, you only cheat yourself. But of what? Playing Fallout games isn't much of a competition. Of what, how many tin plates you can collect? Or how far ahead of the self adjusting-combat curve you are? The point of an adventure game on a PC isn't fitness, it's fun, so if your having fun I don't think your cheating yourself- or anyone else. Normally I'm against cheating, ALWAYS when playing other people, not AI, but while I love FO:3 and FO:NV, they provided me both many frustrations, and the 'de-suck-ing' tool in the form of the console. It's like the STAPLES easy button agrees the computer is a cheating bastard or that that one weapon is really, really cool. I guess playing on my own time for just the experience, I feel the need to modify the game as I wish. Currently I'm using the GECK to clean up various accommodations of clutter and junk to do what I think you should be able to do in the Fallout games, improve the places you visit for those that live there. I get that the game is about visiting ruins of a fallen society, but I think it's also about the impact you have there. I always try to play a straight game from the beginning but it starts with a few fun inventory adds, then you have to increase your carryweight exponentially, it just creeps in from the sides. I don't TGM and save, I only do that for boredom killing then reload prior. Also if something necessary is ridiculous to find or secure or if I get too frustrated with how repetitious character upkeep is in the game, I am inclined to cheat. I also love the console to custom change the clothing and weapons of people I don't intend to fight, to make them look how I think they should. In F03 I turned the raider-diner after I spawned the trap into a lovely scene of peaceful people in a surreal tv like existence in various outfits. I did the same with the pop and stop by completely stocking the place with a news stand, refreshment cooler and large grocery selections. There were even bobby pins and tins of BBs for sale by the register, and pistols on the shelf behind the counter. So yeah, you could say I enjoy using the console. I'm not sure I would enjoy the games more less or the same if I couldn't. Edited March 27, 2011 by METAo0oLURGIST
METAo0oLURGIST
...I think the Legion are bugged in my save though. They are marked as "Vilified" but they never get angry at me. I think it's because on their first encounter (town hall), I agreed to help them so there would be more quests. Ever since then, I can walk into a camp of them - right up to their head guy and, "ave" - BAM! Really, you guys dressed like him don't care? And they're like "better him than me". Really, I just wiped out like 20 of you guys over the hill and your leader here - I can walk right up to you and, "ave" - BAM! And you two Powder Gangers, I set you free 3 days ago - and you got caught again, by these morons? Look, I can walk right up to them and, "ave" - BAM! These guys are outsmarting you? You know what, BAM!, BAM! I'll be back in 3 days. I'm going to go kill an abnormally large amount of geckos and scorpions, wishing they were super mutants. That is awesome. I can so relate to this moment right here. Like, ok, your outfits are scary-cool, but your communication networks need some work. I'm the guy that keeps waltzing into your camp and shooting everyone with a suppressed rifle, remember? No? Let me remind you- thuuuup! The legion doesn't seem to have their latin for kill on sight straight, and once you master [HIDDEN] rifle shots ADS, the 'creatures of the wasteland' become both a way to kill time AND rack up meaningless xp. Can you say, these games don't expand content with stats and skills, it restricts it? Hence why I cheat to be able to have the 'whole pie' and eat it too. AbleGnome
Like with Fallout and Oblivion, on the first play through I play until I have the computer in my arms, aimed at the open window. Then I help myself past whatever situation I'm in. Second play through, I load up the cheats and see what I can do with tons of cash and the best equipment--the crazy-powerful weapons not available in the game, like the Debug Mega Pistol and the Faderator, etc. Then I go back to plan A, start vanilla and explore every tiny teeny nook and cranny for quests and items and new stuff, as I try to survive (with experience on my side). Then, I start loading up the mods.
mrmlr86
I have two saves, with two completely dif. characters. One is only available for DLC's and the other is a God. SO I can have my cake and eat it too.
enlo
Why on earth should I user cheat commands? It's not as if this game is very hard or something? The resason for using cheats in this game is debugging/modding or as workaround for bugs when you are stuck in geometry or so. What I have to admit is using the fallout wiki which is like cheating as it opposes the wander-around-and-explore nature of the game EDIT: You don't have to cheat in this game to earn a ton of cash as it's sooo easy to get a ridiculous amount of it with caravan and blackjack. With the repair skill you save so much money you always can buy whatever you want. Edited March 28, 2011 by enlo
