Product::New Vegas

Processor::Intel Core 2 Duo

ProcessorSpeed::2.5 Ghz

RAM::8 DDR3

VideoManufacturer::Nvidia

strDesc::Upon installing the Nvidia 260.99 Driver, The Fallout New Vegas

launcher will stop working (with the stopped working window popping up)

when detecting my new video hardware settings. I have tried running both

New Vegas and the Launcher in XP compatablity mode and ran as administrator, I have tried inserting

the d3d9.dll into the fallout directory, and many other fixes to no success.

I run Fallout New Vegas from steam and not from the .exe. After the launcher crashes and I

restart the launcher and immediately launch Fallout, I will recieve the "Gamebryo failed to render" error

. I have not altered the video card in any way, and tried a fresh install of the 260.99 driver. If I roll back to the 258.96

driver the game will work properly again.

I sent my DxDiag to Bethesda and I've attached it here for you all. Bethesda's response is as follows:

Hello,

You may want to roll back drivers until another driver for your card is released past 260.99.

It is strongly recommended to turn off all background applications when running graphically intensive programs. Many applications can cause errors such as GPFs, colour scrambling, loss of sound effects or music, etc. Taking a minute to turn off these applications can save you the trouble of rebooting later. Background applications include such things as System Agent, Norton Utilities, Internet chat utilities, virus checkers and screen savers. Crash guard programs such as First Aid for Windows can also cause problems.

1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen.

2. Click on Start Search

3. Type in msconfig and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

4. Click the Continue button if the message "Windows needs your permission to continue" appears. If this message does not appear, please continue to step 5.

5. On the General Tab, choose Selective Startup.

6. Uncheck the option to Load startup items.

7. Click Apply, then Ok, and restart the system when prompted.

So rolling back my Drivers, and turning off my background applications (Which I already do) is their solution........Has anyone else had this problem or am I just SOL?

I bet you have a codec pack or few installed? Like K-Lite perhaps?

While it wasn't game breaking for me (still using XP on a system far slower than yours), there's a conflict if you don't manually disable two codecs when falloutnv starts - ffdshow audio and video.

Otherwise, the only thing that really comes to mind is something keeping the game from taking full screen control, maybe a taskbar or app or utility that always remains on top? The only times I specifcally had the initialization problem was when something stole focus from the game as it was starting, even me closing a window as the game loads up can be enough to do it.
