monshael
i want to add new mods that are cool, awesome and praised by all, but even if i'm careful to download only those that are compatible with each other, i seem to always have the same problem: the added content looks like crap.for example, i found Nevada Skies, a great weather mod, and installed it 'cuz it looked awesome in the screenshots, but when i play the game, this is what i get:sky 1sky 2 similar problems show up on another mod which gives you a huge custom sword that I like, for which i only see rainbow squares on it. I have NVSE and run the game through FOMM which seems to have Archive Invalidation, but with it activated i get multicolored polka squares instead of normal colors and without it i get gray, black, rusty and/or other crappy stuff that shouldn't appear. So please help a noob out. I'd like to solve this on my own, but i'm a moron. Thanks
monshael
27 views and no one knows why the sky and various custom added items look like that? there's not even a guess? :(
Moraelin
Hmm... No bloody clue, sorry.
rhino666
I myself am also a noob to modding, I'm trying to create the island from Lost. Looking through texturing relating posts, I read this one, and my guess is that this is a video card issue. Some setting in the advanced settings of the game engine, our outdated drivers for your video card, or damage to some directX stuff. Reinstall drivers, directx, and play with your grfx settings in the launcher.
monshael
hmm...well my drivers are up-to-date since i had a clean windows reinstall done recently and i'm following the recommendations on game settings, so if it is because of the video card, it's probably beyond repair. i was hoping to find others with this problem and go from there, but since i haven't found any other posts related to mine i'm probably gonna go with the 'time to buy a new video card" solution, when i manage to scrounge up some money... in the meantime, i'll keep on searching for and trying whatever fixes i may find, so feel free to voice your opinions regarding this matter without any restraints. Thank you for your replies!
CrusaderTemplar
If you give the name of your computer I could probly tell you if it is up to scratch or not, also, just because you reinstalled widows dosent meen your drivers are up-to-date, try downloading a program or somthing to check if they are, just search Driver Updater in google. I know its a little late but I hope it helps...
ub3rman123
That looks like what I got when I compressed some textures in GIMP. Try opening the textures in GIMP, then re-saving them as a .dds (Same location and name) and make sure all compression is set to none. Edit: A far more likely solution is that you need to run Archive Invalidation Invalidated. I'm not sure what it'd look like in NV if you haven't installed it yet. In FO3 you got warping textures that changed to th etexture behind them.
monshael
@CrusaderTemplar, my PC is pretty old...without going into specifics, for this game, minimum specs <= my specs << recommended specs. Going into specifics, my video card is a GeCube Radeon x1550 256MB, which is long gone from the stores' shelfs, but for older games it does its job.I did like you said and searched for a driver updater on google and they're about half-half, with the bad half not containing the video driver. Don't know how the bad half is related to the textures, but i'll download them all eventually to iron out other problems that might appear. @ub3rman123, i'll try your GIMP solution and see how it goes.About Archive Invalidation Invalidated, i already tried that and it was without change. (quick ex: .bsa in data and change info in all .ini's) Thanks for your help!
Savage117
Hey Monshael, If you are using mid/low grafix settings the default sky will look broken. That's what the Nevada skys FAQ says, have you tried the lower setting version of the sky textures? This is almost definitely a texture issue, I had a lot of these problems in Oblivion before archive invalidated came out. It was almost always my archive invalidation file. This goes for your sword problem too. Edited November 24, 2010 by Savage117
monshael
Apparently, Archive Invalidation works fine. I still haven't tried with the sword, but the sky problem actually came from the game video settings. I maxxed it out and the sky was good again. So i guess the issue was/is my low-end pc...I'll be trying different things to see if the problem persists, but to be honest this obvious answer seems to be the right one. At least the issue wasn't left unresolved. Thanks again guys, you've all been a great help!
