Importing Fallout 3 Resources into New Vegas

Hey, I'm not too experienced of a modder, but would there be a way to import Fallout 3 cells, scripts, etc- pretty much everything, into New Vegas? Shouldn't New Vegas be able to utilize the resources, considering that the two games have the same engine? Or has the NV engine been tweaked too much? Is there a way to viably import all Fallout 3 resources into New Vegas? I would really like to test out the trail carbine on some Swampfolk.

well, as far as i know, you can use the resources from one game into the other, but you can't use the same plugins

so everything that is defined in a plugin must be remade

that means that you can use any file in the sub folders inside your data directory (meshes, textures etc) but not plugins

so you can't really use an existing cell, you will have to recreate it

by plugins do u mean master files? I dont plan on importing my mods from Fo3. In any case, how could it be done? I know that some Fo3 cells, such as the vendor cells, are still in NV, despite being unused- how do you suppose the developers did that, and is it possible for us?

1 - importing any assets from one game into another is defined as software piracy

2 - the dev's were sloppy again, they included 98.7% of all fallout 3 assets in the Fallout New Vegas distribution files.

3 - if what you seek is inside item #2 - use it/them freely for mods for FONV

Please stop repeating this BS.

Piracy is when assets are used in contrary to the copyright holder's wishes.

The STALKER assets, for example.. they have been imported into other games, but guess what, it's not piracy, because the IP owner has given that type of use its blessing.

By your reasoning, 30% of New Vegas is an act of piracy.

by your own reasoning

NV assets were put there by the copyright holder

therefore legal

so your assertion is full of self inflation

I never said "importing any assets from one game into another is defined as software piracy"

So is "importing any assets from one game into another ... defined as software piracy" or isn't it?

OP - assets go between fo3 and NV just the same as any other. But the product of your porting is not to be distributed until the day Beth/Obsidian say it's OK.

plugins are the files that you load in the mod manager, as in esp and esm files

these are what you can't import normally

however, you can use (for you own personal use of course) the other files from one of the games, but you will have to create the plugins for them yourself

for an example, if you want to have the brush gun in FO3, you can take the model and textures and put them into the FO3 directory, but you will have to create the weapon in the FO3 GECK (but as said in the previous posts, don't publish the mod, unless all you publish is the plugin)
