tesseractangular
Hello, For quite some time I've been trying modify tangent space normal maps for a mod I'm working on using Gimp.I've come across many tutorials on how to create new normal maps, but not one on how to modify an existing normal map that I've extracted. Does anyone know how to edit a tangent space normal map or do you know of any tutorials I could try? Thank you in advance.
VitamineD
Hi. I'm having this exact problem. Been looking through the editor, youtube, tutorials, it's all about new areas while I want to start editing the existing ones first.
Skybroom
Hello, I need a tutorial covering this issue too. Some info I found: http://www.bencloward.com/tutorials_normal_maps12.shtml Edited September 2, 2017 by Skybroom
Dendius
Haven't you tried using special platforms for creating maps to edit your map? I think you can do that, using the first map's data.
RandyWhites
Actually, I'm too used to Google maps because I find them extremely comfortable and easy to use. After all, you can enter latitude and longitude map, search for interesting places, read reviews on many things. There are too many tools and that's why I don't think there's a reason to create new maps. Edited July 23, 2021 by RandyWhites
Tasheni
Makes no sense for me to edit normal maps. Takes way too long. If the diffuse or specular dds file looks good without seams it's better to create the normal map new. Use this tool: https://boundingboxsoftware.com/materialize/. It's easy, fast and normal maps will be awesome.Workflow: Save the diffuse or specular map as tga or bmp file. Open that file with Materialize. Create a heightmap. Create normal map from heightmap. Save the normal map. Show full material or delete the height map, if you don't need it. Save as bmp or tga. Open in Photoshop or Gimp and save again as dds. Ready. If you become familiar with that software, creating process is the best and fastest I know of.
