Realism in Oblivion

A lot of mods make Oblivion more real. Some of them add primary needs, other excludes fast travel, etc. But there is no mod, which make real the battle system. Of course you can balance weapons, add sneak extra damage, etc. But you still can kill your opponent attaking his leg or arm!!!! Seems like they die becourse of shock or smth else. I want to ask: could be possible to make mod which will change this. I'm only beginner in modding. That's why i don't know much. And may be someone will catch the idea and will be able to make something in that way.

P.S. Sorry for my very bad english. I'm from Russia actually.

Short answer: No. Hit detection is all or nothing.

Long answer: It might be possible, but would require large amounts of scripting.

If I were, in a fit of madness, to attempt something along these lines, I would limit it to higher/bonus (base damage * x, or base damage + y, respectively) damage for head hits.

Dismemberment has also been covered hundreds of times. It's partially because of this that it isn't possible, but also because meshes aren't divided up into peices that you could feasibly hack off.

Yeah, that does seem to be the trouble. What if, instead, making a series of meshes: arms, legs, torso, head. Then using a script for placement, thereby creating a humanoid. This way you could make a script for each part of the body for damage modifications to increase or decrease the damage delt. A percentage based of the health of a limb would make it "on" or "off" the body. That's my thoughts on this, in a nutshell.

The only thing I can't figure out is how one would make the NPCs or creatures life-like whilst using a plan like the above.
