Requesting help

Well, y'see.. I'm a tad apprehensive to post this here as I'm not sure if it's the right thing to ask here, or if it can't be done as it involves the content of two different authors, but my request is for someone to merge, (or instruct me how) the Mystic Elf mod's face, hair, eyes and whatnot with the Half-Elf mod by some Magistrate fellow, I believe, to make a Mystic Elf with an Almeri's (Half Altmer, half Dunmer, predominantly Altmer) racial abilities. I apologize if I did anything wrong here, but let's just see how this goes.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read!

First of all, go ask those authors. Most upload sites will have some sort of link to email or PM the author. If you've made every reasonable attempt to get permission and can't get a hold of the authors, then, and only then, I'd say a mod is fair to use and edit, as long as you credit those authors and anyone else involved with the creation.

That aside, you want the Tes IV Plugin Utility. I can't remember where it is, but google it and it should turn up. Once you have that, basically just use the merge function. It's best to have a good look at the mods in question though, make sure there are no fatal conflicts, otherwise you may find that one part stops working after the merge.

Am I correct in thinking that you want the physical appearance of one race, and the gameplay values of the other? The following is based on that assumption.

Para 1: It sounds like he wanted it for his own use, in which case I don't think it would be necessary to get permission.

Para 2: This isn't sufficient, as he wants a combination of the two races. InsteadL

Open the CS.

Load the two mods, with neither active.

Under Character, open the Race... option.

Select the race whose appearance you want, right-click on it, and select Duplicate.

Slowly double-click (for some reason, it ignores fast) on the EditorID of the duplicate. It should show $DuplicatedRaceNameCOPY0000 *. Type in the ID you want. This is NOT the same as the in-game race name.

Now:

Under the General Data tab, copy (by entering identical values, rather than Copy/Paste) all values under Base Attributes, all Skill Bonuses, and all spells. You will have to pull the spells from the Magic menu in the Object Window. If you want a different voice set, select it.

Under the Body Data, Face Data, and FaceGen Data tabs, don't do anything.

Under the Text Data tab, enter the race name you want, and the description you want. If you want the same ones as either of the source races, it'll be faster to Copy/Paste. Make sure the Playable box is checked.

Under the Reactions tab, duplicate (right-click, select New, and enter the Disposition Modifier) the entries from the gameplay race.

Hit OK, and save as a new mod. Since other mods may use the same source mods, and changing them might mess up said hypothetical mods, the method I have outlined will result in this mod being dependant on both the source mods.

Copying this to my last post in the mod creation thread.

Alright, I've got everything done as stated, and saved it as a new mod, but I'm thinking I did something wrong, as the game freezes at startup now, during the Bethesda credits. What might I have done to cause this?

*Edit* Pulling up the new 'MysticAlnmer' in the editor without activating (honestly, I don't know what activating it does or doesn't do) it, it loads all the stuff up fine, but returns me and error that it can't find certain objects or something, I believe it said hair.)

First, are you running the Custom Race Fix mod? Not having it active shouldn't cause a freeze during the credits, but who knows?

Try removing all the hairstyles, and then adding them again. The Hair... menu is in the Character pulldown, just drag a hairstyle from it, and drop it in the appropriate list.

What exactly is the error message?
