miikiious
could someone make a mod that will replace a single opponents like goblins with a horde of weakened wersions of them and/or multiplying bandits? It's stiupid that a lonly bandit attacks a much stronger player. I always thought it would be nice slashing enemies left and right rather than haveing a dissapointing fight with a single opponent. Something like wolves attacking in a pack things like that.
majikmonkee
If I understand correctly, Oblivion runs into problems if you have too many actors on screen at once. I found this to be true when my party of four wandered into a desert village and a tribe of six or seven Khajiit attacked us. The battle's effectiveness was somewhat diminished by a very noticeable loss in FPS. Don't get me wrong, I love slashing through hordes in games like Battle for Middle Earth but I think Oblivion has some limitations.
miikiious
what about cities? there are moments when you have much more NPCs on the screen. They're not fighting but does it really make such an difference?
majikmonkee
Usually not, although in my case, the NPC's are usually spread out a little and aren't all being rendered at the same time from what I can tell. It's when they all get into "action mode" that things go south, especially if a bunch of NPC's start casting at the same time, that really slows things. Not saying this will be the case for everyone...
danielj97
Oblivion (on an average PC) can only handle around 15 NPC's at once without lag. Mines can handle about 20 though. Some can only handle 10. This could be made, but it wouldn't be like Lord of the Rings Games, in which you could fight like 100's at a time. You'd only be able to fight around 15 at a time, which isn't much of a horde. But, it could still keep you entertained. I might decide to make this if I get the time. majikmonkee
Would it be possible to set an editable threshold for the player to determine maximum horde size after launching the mod? :-)
theuseless
I did run into a mod that made the spawns have larger groups. I can't remember the name of it, but I'm sure that there is at least one out there. I would reccomend asking the Oblivion Mod Detectives on these forums for it. There was another cool one that summoned 5 bandits and 5 marauders, who would attack each other on sight. Big fun.
David Brasher
Here are a couple of mods that might interest you: Smarter Bandits - a large bandit mob of random size and composition will attack you on any road you travel between cities. Adrenaline Oblivion - Replaces every enemy that spawns with three enemies.
