ModerateOsprey
I am trying really hard to find a sensible approach to modding Oblivion. I have no real problems with DAO or Fallout, but I think I am close to declaring defeat. After a considerable amount of reading, I have OBMM installed and I would like to install Wyre Bash. I realise the complexity of the latter, but am failing at the first hurdle as all the docs say read the installation guide which all links to the same dead URL :/ Not to be deterred, I have installed Python into C:\python27 and my Oblivion folder is at C:\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion. I followed the instructions on the Wiki to create a shortcut, but when a launch I simply get Python running in a DOS box winking at me. How do I get the GUI to launch? This would at least give me a fighting chance with it! There is lots of great docs around once you have the thing running, but I can't find any instructions for actual installation! Any help would be appreciated - Am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I run all install routines and even launch games etc as Administrator.
ub3rman123
Are you attempting to install mods or make mods? If you're just installing them ,you probably don't need Wrye Bash or Python just yet. It's a very simple process for most mods. Refer to this post for some in-detail instructions on how to install mods.
Smooth613
You can't find instructions for installation? Odd, they are in the form of a ReadMe included in the Wrye Bash archive you downloaded. It's an updated version of the online counterpart, one site recently went down you are correct, but there is the Wryemusings site still available. However the online information is a little dated so it's best to use the included HTML version of the ReadMe. It's located in the Oblivion\Mopy folder. I also suggest you take a look at the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies. A great starter kit for getting your hands dirty. Make sure you're using Wrye Python03a. It contains additional Python libraries that Wrye Bash must have in order to function. You should also be using Wrye Bash 290 and completely avoid 288 and 289. Proper Wrye Bash installation procedure as follows. Install Wrye Python 03aInstall Wrye Bash 275 Installer Version.Update to 287 per update instructions. (overwrite previous)Update to 290 per update instructions (overwrite previous) Following this procedure will usually place a working shortcut on your Desktop for Wrye Bash. If not you can go to your Mopy folder and create one for WryeBashLauncher.pyw. Final suggestion: Install Oblivion outside of Program Files since you are on Windows 7 to avoid UAC permissions problems. Trust me it's worth the time to go ahead and do this now as opposed to later. Good luck. Edited November 27, 2010 by Smooth613
ModerateOsprey
Thank you both very much for this. Helpful stuff - didn't occur to me to look for docs in the archive (schoolboy error - oops). I am mainly concerned with modding for play, but I do have a bit of curiosity about how the modding process is done. The reason I decided to look at Wyre Bash is that it seemed to be the definitive tool for managing mods and one or two of the recent mods require it for them to function.
