Cannot install 1.7 patch into Game of the Year

Help a noob with what may be and "old news" problem.

I am runing Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition version 1.0.0.12 with no DLC content using Windows 7.

I can't get DVD2 to work. FOMM states that the DLC is there (Maybe from my original install last winter) but I can't find it, even by showing hidden files. Either way I do not have the .esm file checkboxes checked in FOMM.

Anyhow, my problem is that FOSE (v1.2 b2) states I must upgrade game to v1.7. I go to the official site and start the download. The game starts in the middle of it and the download stops responding. If I close the game the download screens disappear.

I am running the game from C:/Games for Fallout 3/Fallout 3 directory instead of the C:/programs (x86) directory.

While I'm not too sure what it all means my Control Panel Programs and Features page shows that I have MGfW-Live, MGfW-Live Redistributable, Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, and Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.

Can anyone help?

Thank you,

Mudtoy

Fallout GOTY should come with the 1.7 patch included

install the second disk

if you don't have a second disk, you don't got GOTY

Something particularly odd when FOMM can find the files and you cannot

usual problem is exactly the other way around.

Check where FOMM is looking for your game

The second dvd is notorious for giving problems ... insert the disk and go have a cup of coffee and come back later in about 5 to 10 minutes, by that time your pc will have "seen" the disk ... this has been the solutution for me and tons of other people.

Hope this helps ... cheers

Here's the Official Patch 1.7 which is available on the Nexus site .... http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8216

After downloading the "Patch", go to the place you downloaded it and activate it from there ... I did this already and it worked, perhaps

it'll work for you.

Out Freaking Standing! Worked like a charm. Thank you. Thought I was going to be forced to purchase another copy to get DLC.

Of course now I must learn how to get mods to work on DLC......Cool.....I think.

I do not think I should be posting so many times but I can't figure out how to use the Multiquote button to quote several people at once.

You are correct . The second disk did install the 1.7 patch.

As far as FOMM and DLC....FOMM Settings Tab states the following:

Mod directory = C:\Games for Fallout 3\Fallout 3\mods

Install Info = C:\Games\Fallout 3\Install Info

Fallout 3 directory = C:\Games for Fallout 3\Fallout 3

I understand that I must move DLC from where MGfWL stores them to my data folder but I annot find them. FOMM can. I shall now try to learn why while I eat my breakfast.

Thanks for your help.

do you mean the mods directory for Fallout 3 or Fallout Mod Manager?

FOMM has its own directory for "mod installation-FMOD" while

Fallout 3 MOD installation goes into Fallout 3\Data (You put every file, folder like modname.esp, Mesh, Texture, Sound in there)

There are plenty of mod installation guides if you search enough. =)

Ai-nene,

I entered the game and the textures on certain items, rocks for instance, were very blurry. I disabled all DLC - no change. I think the 1.7 patch did it. Did a fresh install - no luck. Five days of work and research and I am worse off than when I started.

For now I am going to quit until next weekend. I have spent all of my Thanksgiving vacation here in the States trying to mod this game and now I am going play Fallout NV and let all my newfound knowledge soak in. I will start over next weekend. Thanks for your help.

So you have to actually do something to make the mods work? I've installed also GOTY, as mentioned, the second disk took good 20 minutes to install everything. I can see the files installed in the Data folder in the Fallout 3 directory. Game version is 1.703.

I'm playing FO3 for the first time since I enjoyed New Vegas, so, the DLC is activated at some point? Do I have to "activate" them? Sorry to hijack the topic.

You must check the boxes in the Data Files section of the offial launcher. The official launcher is the first box that comes up . It has Play, Options, Data files, Tech Support, and Exit on the right hand side. Go into data Files and check all the boxes for the DLC. If it works when you start the game you will recieve several radio transmisions telling you about the new content.

  • 6 years later...

I'm sorry for dragging up this topic, but I have the same problem. It's impossible to install the 1.7 patch on GOTY. I have the GOTY edition I installed the second DVD, and still my executable file is 1.0!

I tried downloading the official patch from bethesda, it does something but it doesn't update the exe. I tried both the UK and the US patch to no avail.
