Mercenary Mod

I like the concept of mercenaries and "military contractors" in Fallout. I see those guards defending caravans, some of them escorting Crimson Caravans, others doing work for the NCR such as clearing a stretch of road of Giant Ants for caps.

It would be really cool if someone could make repeatable quests, or a series of missions that simulates the life of a mercenary or contractor, much like the "bounty hunter" mod that's popular right now.

I would be happy if there was simply a system that you can do over and over again where you escort merchants from Point A to Point B, and it varies each time. One mission, from Primm to Novac, or Freeside to Sloan.

Search for New Vegas Bounties 1, it is an exellent bounty hunter mod with unique jobs and a promise of more add-ons to it.

Did you not listen? He mentioned that, but that's not what he's talking about.

He doesn't want to hunt after one person: He wants to fight creatures, clear buildings, battle a multitude of enemies, not just one person.

The idea of an endless quest is pretty good too. This was in Fallout 1, you could get a job as a caravan guard and repeat as many times as you want, fighting random enemies along the way. This could definitely be expanded upon, by adding jobs such as

-quelling attacks on communities

-scavenging for certain discriminating customers

-assassinations (that of generic boss tier characters that respawn)

-and of course, following a caravan and defending it.

It always bugged me that loot and enemies don't respawn in buildings and caves, ESPECIALLY in fallout 3. Dunwich building, evergreen mills, the capital building. All worthless once you go through them once. Not sure why bethesda did that, and why obsidian didn't change it, considering the respawning loot in Oblivion gave the game a hell of a lot more replay value. The game needs something to do while we just wait for the DLC, besides constantly remaking characters and going through the main quest, or surfing through the nexus, hoping to find a decent quality set of quests like Bounty Hunters. I understand the Wasteland Defense mod is a lot like what I'm talking about, which is great, but so far it seems to be a little unstable, and not to mention the only one of its kind. Perhaps... A caravan mod. Start your own caravan, and manage it? Decide what to sell, where to go, what mercs to hire, or build your own help. I dunno.

tl;dr

Suggesting more never-ending wasteland defense-esque mods, and others like it that add to the game's hours.

I like the sound of this, especially guarding a caravan.

My method of play is to switch on hardcore-mode and 'try to live a life in the wastes'. I wander around just doing what someone with a gun at their hip does in the wastes... which isn't much in the vanilla game. Being able to rolepaly a caravan guard or a merc would be awesome. Especially if it was re-playable.

I do that too, and role playing in the wasteland is very fun, and having a daily job like guarding caravans and stuff would be amazing like you said.

I have always wanted repeatable, slightly changing missions to do however much i wanted. One good idea that came to me was that if you are friendly with the powder gangers you can raid caravans with them. you talk to a NPC accept the mission and get transported to a stretch of highway with three powder ganders. Then you have to kill some caravan guards, the merchant and his brahmin. Then you get transported back to NCRCF and get your share of the loot, varying each time along with the caravan. You could attack random ones, crimson caravan ones, and gun runners fro the best loot if you can deactivate the bombs on the caravan. That would be a fun repeatable mission for evil characters and make the powder gangers worth, though on the flip side for a merc or crimson caravan company you could protect caravans from powder gangers and other criminals. Now that would be fun.
