SickleYield
So I'm making new armor. Nobody seemed too interested in the Nightshade armor, but that's okay, I can handle rejection. :) I think a few more will like the black 'n spiky Last Resort armor once I release it, and it has my first new texture on it. However. When I try to get my new helmet ingame, it will not fit beast races. Not even Orcs. And if I add an .egm file to the same folder with the appropriate name (helmet.egm for helmet.nif), it still doesn't fit PLUS it's wildly distorted in shape. I have the same problem with the Nightshade helm, which is all new, and the Last Resort helm, which is a tweak of the steel one. Has anyone had success making a brand new helmet mesh fit beast races as well as the others? How? Please share.
WarKirby3333
I have no experience with modeling so I can't help you there, but I do have some advice. If your last armor didn't recieve much interest, it's likely that people simply failed to notice it. Instead of throwing it asidde, why not incorporate it with the next one, and build up an armor collection mod. A mod which adds several sets of armor will get a lot more attention than a single set, especially if you put 'new meshes' or 'new models' into the mod title. Naybe people thought your armor was just retextured. The helmet is by far the least important piece of armor, I never wear them. SO if you can't get the helmet to work, then just release the armor witout a helm. WarKirby
Vagrant0
yeah, helmets in Oblivion kinda suck. All the standard ones are rather stupid looking, and how they equip (in place of hair) tends to mean that any helmet you make would have to cover most of the head anyway. I don't use helmets either, ruins the whole point of custom hair, or spending the few minutes getting the color/length right.

WarKirby - actually that's what I'm planning to do. When I get a couple more new-meshed armors made, I'll release a shop selling four or five plus my new gold and silver chain jewelry. (Extrusion: the modeler's friend!) I've already got my little cavern set up and made my merchant and I'm in the process of learning how to create some blue flame atronachs for atmosphere. Man, fire retexturing is time consuming, but it looks sweet. The Wiki was good for something non-beginner-level for once. Vagrant - I may just release the helmets with a note that beast races can't use them. :( I hate to do that, because there are way too many "ethnocentrist" type mods out there. Especially since I generally play Orcs. I tried learning to make the hair meshes into wigs, like the awesome ones you could get at Metal Queen Boutique for Morrowind, so that I could make crowns or tiaras. Gave up in disgust. The game will not accept a hair mesh made into a helmet for some reason, I'm guessing to do with the .tri files. I might try making wig meshes from scratch, but that's gonna take a lot of time (new hair textures are a b*) and I'll probably do it last.
