As Melisande starts to show the letter to Bengt, there is a problem - the note is not in the same handwriting that she had remembered it. Bengt's statement is true - the handwriting on the maps does not match the handwriting on the note. The contents of the note are the same, but this is a much heavier, clumsier hand than what she remembers.

Linden nods her head in agreement to Eruanion's suggestion.

"Okay, we go in together. We'll head for the shimmering speck."

Looking over to Alenee: "Alenee, I suggest you hang back and cover us. I trust you not to shoot us. If anything should happen to us, I suggest that you run and try to get out from the closed portal back yonder. Hopefully there should be a release catch. It's more important that you warn Bengt and the others what is down here than trying to save us. Bengt should have some means to contact the king to get troops down here. Be well, my friend."

Back to Eruanion: "Shall we go in?" and starts to step through the door.

Linden's voice brings Alenee out of her thoughts. "What? Oh, that. Yeah, you're right. I've got your back." She steps into position outside the door, but with a reasonable arc into the room. "Whenever you're ready" she says as she readies an arrow.

Linden, Alenee, Eruanion, &?

The light from your torches begins to illuminate the room as you move in. what was making the reflection becomes all to clear - Jouko's sword lies on the ground toward the center of the room. Around you, you see a strange, yet captivating sight. The door through which you enter is in the center of a wall that extend twenty feet in both directions. As you get into the room, the back wall becomes visible some thirty to thiry five feet away. The ceiling above you seems to be a solid slab of stone, rough hewn, without any braces or columns to hold it up anywhere. The size of the room is not remarkable. It's what's in it that gives you pause.

Around the walls are a number of life-like statues of people in various positions and apparently from various social classes. Along the back wall is a ten foot high, twenty foot across bookshelf with six shelves, the contents of which cannot be easily discerned at this distance. In the center of the room are three structures. One, perpendicular to where you stand, just over halfway across the room, is a carved stone structure that almost shines with its whiteness. Laying on top of this is a statue, lifelike as all of the ones around the perimeter of the room.

A short distance from this are two other carved 'structures', set up perpendicular to the one the figure is on. One is at the head and one at the feet of the statue. Each are slightly offset toward the end of the room that you are currently at, and each of them seem to have some kind of apparatus on them, at least part of which sparkles like crystal.

The floor is inlaid with white, red and black stones, creating a pattern like a three colored chessboard. Each of the stones is about a foot across, and there is no visible seam where they touch. Jouko's prone body lays on the floor, within the 'U' formed by the three tables. His head is away from you, and he is on his stomach, with his sword pointing toward you at his feet.

"This is incredible," Erunánion says quietly. He kept his eyes moving from statue to statue, advancing slowly towards Jouko's prone body. "The construction of this room is amazing." He rubbed the toe of one foot over the what should have been the crease between towo slabs. "Linden, you think all these have some kind of ritual meaning? And what do you make of those cyrstal things over there?" He gestures towards them, and cautiously takes a step forward towards them.

"I have never seen the likes of this in all of my life. I believe this is the tomb proper and the central carving is the bier. The two side structures are unknown to we as to what they are. The stuff on the bookcase yonder is probably gifts or necessities for his afterlife's trip. Unfortunately, the religious or demonic significance is unknown to me." (correct, GM?)

(Holding up the torch more so she can see around the room) "It is truly wonderous....but possibly deadly (pointing to Jouko). Let us look to our fallen comrade, but go cautiously.... Let's walk into the room about 10-15 feet staying only one color tile. Do not go between the two side structures."

OOC - can we advance into the room to the said 10-15 feet, grab Jouko, and pulls him back towards us? We need to check if he is unconscious or :rip: .

Hi everyone - I hate to leave everything in the lurch like this, but I am going to be in the hospital and away from a computer for the next two weeks or so (hopefully shorter). If I can get on line, I will. I will try to keep Emry up to date on what is going on. Please do not despair, and post if you want to in the meantime.

I'll see everyone in a little while

OOC: Ok Kethruch. Hope you get better ^_^ In that case, i'll put a little waiting post on here.

Erunánion looks out across the room, and gets a strange sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He puts a hand on Linden's arm, saying "Hold on a second. I think we should wait and think about this for a second. We don't know what we're dealing with here." To that end, he cautiously takes a step back, and leans back against the wall. He remains alert, looking into the room, but relaxs slightly.

OOC again: Emry and Peregrine: If you two don't want to wait, we can continue and just chalk this post up to a bit of mind-control from whatever it was that made Linden go all strange.

  • 2 weeks later...

In the words of that great poet: I'm baaack!

To All

You awake from a kind of slumber, shaken by the feeling that a poignant pause has taken place. As you exhale, you realize that no time has actually passed.

As you move into the room, more becomes clear. On the two side structures, there are several glass or crystal spheres, within each with a different colored crystalline substance. The tops of the tables are perfectly smooth, except for one spot on each, where there is a small depression with a gemstone of approximately the same size near them. The back bookshelf is full of books, except for one shelf that is full of various bric a brac looking items and one sparkling item that you cannot identify at this distance.

As you reach Jouko, you find that he is alive, but unconscious. There are no signs of wounds, and he is mumbling something about 'wings' in his sleep. He is unrousable.

In the shadows and the flickering torchlight, it almost seems as though the statues around the outside of the room move and turn toward you as you enter.

"Ah, um, well." Melisande stammers. She looks into Bengt's eyes, trying to determine if there was some sort of deception behind them. She bats her own. "I am sorry. I jumped to a conclusion and the dead body has me a little jumpy." She takes a second to compose herself. "Do you recognize whose writing this is? There is still the reference to this building in the note." She looks around the room at her companions, trying to tell them with a look that things are not what they seem.
