Deleted5003181User
Hello, I've recently been playing (and thoroughly enjoying) a play through of modded New Vegas ( It's my third time playing it) and I've been thinking about a mod that would add so much lore and tie up loose ends, the mod that I've been thinking of is a Desert Ranger mod. Obsidian dropped the ball with this one. They left the story (if you can even call the brief mentions of the Desert Rangers a story) up in the air. I think it's untapped potential that needs to be added into the game via a mod,and here's my suggestions 1: Add the Desert Rangers into the game. But only a few,eight-10 at the most, and they patrol the Mojave, but mostly the southern end of it,as the NCR and Legion inhabit and control the Northern end. 2:They have several bases, but they're small ones, such as shacks. This allows them to rest, resupply and report into the main base. Now,these bases can act like the Brotherhood`s,Legions and NCR`s safe house`s in the sense that you have to gain the trust of the Desert Rangers before you can access them. 3:Add new armor, high quality armor that would fit, meaning a newer looking, and better looking Desert Ranger combat armor that would be found in the Honest Hearts DLC.All of the Rangers would wear the armor. The stats would be the same as the regular armor found in the DLC,but look different. The effects of wearing the armor would be like you're wearing NCR armor. So the factions that would attack are LegionPowder GangersFiends The NCR won't attack you. The story would go like this. Your stumble upon a Desert Ranger cooking at a fire high in the mountains,he draws his gun and begins asking who you are.You go through several lines of dialogue and speech checks, trying to convince that you're with him. If you manage to convince him,he'll tell you to meet him at a location where you can talk. Once you get there, you again go through several lines of dialogue and you're sent on a quest to find a Desert Ranger that they've lost contact with. You go and find the Desert Ranger and find that he's been shot and he's slowly dying, you can either 1:Give him stimpacks, doctors bags and Med-x and heal him(if you have a high enough medicine skill) And he'll go back to base. You gain karma with the Desert Rangers 2: Kill him and put him out of his misery, grab his gear and dog tag and bring it back to the Desert Ranger and tell him what happened. You gain no Karma with the Rangers After you finish the quest, you're sent on another one,you have to bring in ammo, and a few rifles and pistols ( Hunting Rifles,9mm,10mm pistols and respective ammo) This allows them to get better gear and better serve and protect. Anymore suggestions for quests would be appreciated, and if someone could take the time to make this a high quality mod,or teach me,would be awesome! JimboUK
Obsidian didn't drop the ball at all, they were absorbed into the NCR, they don't exist as a thing in their own right anymore, it's what that statue at the Outpost is all about. I guess you could have a group that didn't want to become part of the NCR, that could be interesting.

That's what I meant, not all of the Desert Rangers would want to be absorbed into the NCR.Some would of protested, others would of still been patrolling the Mojave and Arizona when the treaty was signed. JimboUK
A faction like that would be a good addition, I would imagine they'd be hostile to the just about everyone though, they're already at war with the Legion and I don't think they'd have much love for the NCR. Deleted5003181User
I doubt they'd go to war with the NCR though, but the Rangers could mention their distaste for the NCR,and say that their fellow brother's in the Veteran Rangers were tricked/deceived into thinking that the NCR was "right" for the Mojave and it's citizens.
