Flying Ship

Hello everyone. As the topic title states, I am interested in, if not making a mod, at least playing around with the idea of flying ships. As I am unfamiliar with the deeper parts of modding this game I would like to ask anyone here who is proficient at this sort of thing, where the best place to start might be. From what I've seen, the ships in this game do not move, they are static objects; Which would require that I put a ship model on a mountable moving object, such as a horse. Obviously being in direct control of the ship would be nice, however having it move through an activator menu, or by itself on a set path without a mount pount has its advantages as well. As to making something fly, I don't know if there is another way other than placing the levitation effect on it somehow; but if I'm not mistaken this would require the ship to be an NPC, or part of the Player. If you have any advice or thoughts please post them.

Cheers

It should be possible to make this by changing one of the ship models (are they a single piece?) to an activator, and either have it set up so that there are controls built in (wheel and, although it's an anachronism, throttle), or, when you activate it, have it give you a choice of:

Set Course and Speed or

Hold Position and Go Belowdecks

It would be necessary to limit its height, so it can't go above the sight-cone of city walls. I think there's a function that returns the height immediately below an object.

Problems this might have:

Getting too high

Getting too low in hilly areas

Possibly ignoring the invisible borders

Plenty more, I'm sure...

Yeah, I am!

Progress is a bit slow, though...

It works fine, detects where the player looks, has menus and such...

The problem is, Sinus and Cosinus isn't part of the scripting engine...

I would have to use OBSE to get those; and I would really like to have my mod run without it.

I could use the Math.esm, but (as I've understood it) it returns the results a frame to late, which makes coding the ship a lot harder...

GBHis, you might want to ask the guy who made this http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View...ail&id=1822

if you can edit a ship into his mod, all the groundwork is already there. He claims hes copyrighted it, which I doubt, but better safe then sued.

Not sure if this means that uploading mods to PlanetElderScrolls is a breach of contract, but it might.

The implications are amusing.
