Quarion474
Hello everyone, I hope this post doesn't make anyone mad if it is not in the right place or section in this forum, i am quite unknowledgeable and inexperienced on this matter. I have tried following the instructions and manuals on how to mod oblivion and had limited success doing so. Many mods i have installed are not working and many more are crashing oblivion, probably because i do not know the right sequence in which they should be installed and listed on the mod list. This is my MSN Messenger contact E-mail: radiant_blue@hotmail com I hope someone with knowledge and experience will be patient enough to help me on this matter. Grateful in advance, TheQuarion. David Brasher
Here is a link to the thread in this forum on how to install mods: How to Install Plugins Some common causes of crashing are:(1) Missing masters (.esm files) required by certain plug-ins. You must have the mods installed that a mod depends on for it to run.(2) Missing meshes and textures. In some cases, it will cause crashes rather than just looking bad. Be sure the meshes and textures were installed in the correct folders.(3) Low quality mods. Some mods are just buggy. They will cause you problems even if you install them properly.(4) Weak computer. Consider that this might be a problem only after all else fails. Everybody wants to dive in and install 50 mods at once, and then their games are broken and they feel sad and come to forums like this. Don't install 50 mods at once. You would be asking for trouble. Install one new mod at a time and only one. Play-test your game and make sure it is not broken. Depending on what your mod does, you may need to test for one hour or one whole evening. When you are satisfied that nothing is broken, install the next mod. If your game is suddenly broken, it is a good bet that the last mod you installed did it and you know what mod to remove or fiddle with. Sure, it might take you weeks to get all your mods installed, but it will always run great and you won't be stuck with a broken game and a big knot you can't untie. majikmonkee
I've always done just one mod at a time thankfully but I have run into some that messed up my game and it made it easy to pinpoint the culprit. The advice folks here give to just do a few at a time is golden though. One big problem I had originally running Windows Vista is it would allow me to install the esm and esp files but wasn't actually adding the new material to my mesh and other folders. Make sure your game isn't installed in a "read only" directory folder if you are using Vista.
