I've been having this same exact issue.

I extracted the scripts.rar file to scripts/source, but no dice. Do I really need to re-install Skyrim and the CK in order to make scripts?

EDIT: I just reinstalled Skyrim today, which is why I doubt I have to re-install it again for the scripts.

When you open your data/scripts/source file this is what you should see

If you don't you did something wrong.

There are a few things I'm missing based upon your screenshot, but this is a mostly fresh install so that should be normal.

Since I last posted in this thread, I've re-installed SKSE, verified the Skyrim game files, and re-installed the Creation Kit; all to no avail.

The path should be 'Scripts\Source' you have it as 'Scripts\Scripts\Source' move it into the next folder up and you should be golden.

Well... oops.

File structures like that are common in another game that I used to mod, so I guess I didn't think much of it here.

@Arocide is correct. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, RL happens.

tried it all nothing worked

You need to Elaborate.

Steps you need to do.

1. Find scripts.rar In your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data folder. (If it is not there go to Steam and verify the game cache)

2. Extract the contents scripts.rar to your desktop.

3. Open the extracted file and look for the Source folder it should be in \Scripts\Scripts\Source.

4. Copy the Source folder and drop it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\scripts and over write when asked.

5. Reinstall the SKSE scripts ( make sure latest version) and over write when asked. http://skse.silverlock.org/

If you have any scripts that you have created in the scripts folder they will not be effected unless of course you have not named them the same as the vanilla versions

nope IT DOESNT WORK omg this is f122ing pants

The only way this will not work is if you have placed the source file in the wrong location after extracting if you follow the above post to the letter, you should not have any issues placing the vanilla source scripts where they belong.
