Shall I reinstall fallout 3?

It is steam game correct? If you have the hard drive space, do this.

  1. right click the game folder as if your going to rename it...only don't but copy the name...this is held in the clipboard..and now rename the folder.
  2. click any where in the directory this folder is located at and right click the white background and create a new folder....While high lighted, select paste....crtl + V
  3. Save. this will save your current files and NOT destroy them, they will be isolated completely from steam EVEN if they renamed Original game data is located there ,steam will not see it, it will see only that it may need to update the game files...so because all data in the registry keys have not been touched, Steam will in fact replace the Entire game packages for you...it's the same as re-installing the game "with out Uninstalling it."
  4. This is a "last used and known good game software back up" Only you will have knowledge of it.

Update the game through steam when ready .touch nothing else.

Here's why we are doing this...this will cut down on diagnostic time and your sanity, the game will not have all those mods in it, just what ever steam say's is supposed to be there, will be there. IF, and it's a big IF...steam is keeping some data held at bay, this will remove any doubts about steam being involved or as the cause..we will eliminate that concern.

Edited:...I messed up here a bit, there are two of you here with similar problems and a house full of fun too.

still applies.

catching on ?

so this say's steam is not downloading replacement data.

reinstall the game now as you currently have it....establish a new game set.

my concern was you said you did not want to waste any money...VIA steam..but steam should not be charging you to re-install the game.

It is supposed to replace missing or damaged files...if that is not occurring? re-install the game.

Keep your backed up game don't touch it, get the new data up and running. You can uninstall the game completely because that saved game is still online on a server.

all your mods are in another folder so only the registry keys will get wiped and reboot the system and reestablish steams purchased game, it must re-download it, I have done so 5 times with Oblivion so I know it does work this way...It did before ?!

I'll be here.

My handle on vale networks is purr4me ,send a request there and I;ll get it, then I can inspect the time used for your game. IF there is a cur ency problem, I can drop a dime and get that taken care of.

But I need to see it for my self.

Do you know or remember whom it was you spoke with there?

I don't remember who I spoke with there I spoke with several people to try and help me get this figured out. I even had to go to advanced support and they just told me something was wrong with my computer and I needed to get it fixed, but I forgot what it was since it has been months ago.

Alright I'm reinstalling to see if it will work, thanks.

I am watching a movie on the PC here so I'll check every 15 or so.

keep a cool head on and think clearly..after establishing the installed game, only touch the games launcher.

  1. does not load or partially loads. post image of the last screen.
  2. install Fomm, from the new vegas site ..search term is FORK
  3. It contains a file we shall use at a later point.
  4. copy the Intel fix it *.dll into the new game directory and repeat process.
  5. No load post only "not loading"
  6. open up fomm and verify it squaks about missing files ( we are using Fomm as a detective here) trust me, I know what is going to take place. do what ever is required except ini problems, that we know will be there.
  7. If fomm is able to load, follow the instructions it has for installiong the fake live.dll from with in fomms program. close fomm and "reboot" the PC.
  8. run the launcher now...if and when you getr to the full launcher window...remember to screen shot that as soon as possible.
  9. I need that so I can see what it see's and then decide what you need to do.
