Small idea with user info...

What are you even going on about? Seriously Surenas, drop the thesaurus and at least attempt to write coherently rather than like you're reciting from Chaucer's diaries!

We call that metaphoric imagery here. Recitations are the privilege of others. I can already think myself. Probably one of the rare advantages after eight years here in your wake :)

Anyway. The problem is obvious - we get a flood of intermeshed competitons that actually have no practical value of benefit anymore, at least for those who do not live in the virtual world but have a life outside. Sometimes less is more.

But okay - I'm a purist, as gamer. And because of the games most people are here, I guess, and not predominantly for virtual activity, the modern fitness.

Ok, on behalf of the other members of the staff, and users of the site who have filed reports in regards to your twisted way of throwing pokes in the ribs, I am hereby issuing Strike 1 for flaming and trolling. It's getting to the point where you need to stop and reconsider your words a lot more before you post.

And the rules state that English is the language to be used here on the forums. That rule is in place so that the average reader can understand and communicate with each other. Your use of vocabulary and method of posting leaves many members confused and having to re-read over your posts to understand what you are saying. JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE, and KEEP IT ON TOPIC.

I'm sorry, but I understood that perfectly without having to use a thesaurus. There's absolutely nothing in there that someone who went to high school would be confused by. Its just metaphors. Its not like she's trying to explain how quantum mechanics work.

EDIT: And since I may as well be on topic, don't really see the point, sidepost info doesn't take up that much space. But Im perfectly willing to use a mouseover version if that ever gets implemented.

Yeah, Dark0ne, seriously. I understood her fine and I didn't use a thesaurus. And why should she write the way you want her to write? I'm sorry, but what?

She was making a metaphor. Granted a metaphor that isn't always understood, but for Christ's sake. It's not like she was trolling and she wasn't posting anything offensive. Learn to know when people are making jabs and when not. As for what you highlighted, Darkewolf, I don't see any "[poking] in the ribs" as you put it. If any, it was soft and inoffensive and if any directed at Dark0ne himself whom I think can take a jab now and again without feeling too violated. He's not wet behind the ears, is he? He's an adult and can take (I presume) insults like an adult.

edit: If I must say anything about the topic, however, I must say it does feel a bit frivolous to have something on my profile which is, in essence, meaningless. Kudos (what is it for?) seems to be if you like or don't like a user, even if you don't have the ability to downrate anybody. And AP is awarded for how active you are on the site, which I suppose could be useful in some cases (can't think of any) but otherwise similarly contrived and pointless. But to be even more on topic, suppose all that is true, it doesn't really matter. It doesn't give you any benefits but it doesn't prevent you from posting either. So there's that. As for the question of space, I guess it would be prudent to allow the option to conceal it but other than that... Anyway, that's all I have to say.

edit number two: Change in pronouns. Had a gander and Surenas is apparently of the female variant. My apologies.

To the topic, "It may or may not be good", all depending on the current system Dark0ne has in mind right now, to see more info under our posts would be a good idea, well sorted and understandable for the major group of posters who are browsing the forum section.

To get a better overview of things it could really be a good idea to implement it but Dark0ne needs time, to get a second off the topic, the forums being hacked and everything, im sure he will make the best of it, also poiting towards the new/old AP system and get the new idea to roll over the table in time.

Sounds very usefull if folks dont mind to share the additional info, and of course it would be good to have control over the outgoing information, so it depends all on the user who will set the setting to share this like on our profiles!

Yeah, Dark0ne, seriously. I understood her fine and I didn't use a thesaurus. And why should she write the way you want her to write? I'm sorry, but what?

If someone was using broken, mispelled, and often misworded English to the point where what they are saying cannot easily be read... Intentionally; you would probably have a problem there. If someone decided to write everything backwards for giggles, you would probably have a problem there. While communication can be a form of expression, it is only successful if that expression is understood by the audience. While this does not mean that one must cater to the lowest denominator, one should make an attempt to convey clearly what they wish to say so that the audience is able to understand most of what is said, and knows how to respond to it.

The problem here is that most of what Surans writes in this manner is intentional, and often has jabs and other hostile statements inside it which might not easily be seen by the one they're directed to. The problem is that repeatedly her bits of text, which are often off topic and inflammatory, has been a contributing factor to many debate threads being locked because discussion cannot continue civilly. The problem is that most of these posts are made in a section which is uniquely dependent on fully understanding what the hell someone is saying in order to pose a response. In some cases, people have misinterpreted the words, and started up an argument based on that misinterpretation, which is never resolved simply because most everyone reading interprets the same parts wrong, and no attempt to clarify before going down a path of endless flaming is made. Time and again, it seems to be the source of a problem, so something has to be done to resolve that problem. Requesting that posts be made in plain is a less severe action than the alternatives, which at this point may be warranted.

My idea is that members should have the ability to add or remove some of the information here - Do some of us want to show our AP level, rank, or how much AP we have, or even care about it? Or how about some fields some people would like to show, like gender and location?

Myself, I find post count superfluous (some people love post-count padding and there are a few ways to do it without being obvious - does this site really need a bunch of useless entries?). AP could be a combination of endorsements/kudos/image endorsements received, while kudos could be linked to a 'Thanks!' button displayed at the bottom of each posts (near the quote/reply buttons) in certain sections (Mod Talk, Tech Support, Upload Comments, etc.). The little [+] sign is easily missed, while a 'Thank you' button is more noticeable and self-explanatory.

Most members are just downloaders; they regard Nexus as a big pool of mod database so they don't care much about Kudos nor AP. To modders, those can work as the indication of their mod's poularity which has a lot potential to motivate them, so if there's any way of improving it I'm behind. I'm actually surprised that someone wants to show his gender or location on their side bar (maybe I have been failed to notice the forum aspect of Nexus).

Anyway, unlikely I'm posting here because I really want to say something after reading this thread.

1) Don't let trolls start trolling is Wonderful policy. I adore it.

2) Such as 'banana-like score competions' 'the beloved trademark of the brotherhood of man' are not even close to Chaucer's bright humor.

Keep those ban-hammer and keep Nexus lively. Thanks.
