Fallout 3 on external display won't start

Last week while on spring break, I decided I'd start another playthrough of F3, so I went through the usual routine of modding it, troubleshooting, ect. This was done on my laptop while not connected to any other display via HDMI. When break ended I got back to school, I hooked up my laptop to my 32" display and tried to start Fallout 3. Steam now tells me that there's already another instance of Fallout 3 running. After getting this error a couple times, I went back to only using my laptop screen, and of course it started up like normal. Then, I tested to see if I could open Fallout 3 while only using the laptop display, then while the game is already running, change my display projection setting back to "extend display". Fallout 3 continued running, however, it seemed quite laggy. Not nearly as responsive as it should be. Google didn't find me any solutions, so I hope someone here knows what's going on. Lol, I'm using the FOSE Loader, with the 4GB Patch enabled on the original Fallout3.exe. Also, I'm using GameCompanion to launch the game fullscreen. Again, all of this worked perfectly fine before connected my other display. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them. Thank you!

I need information about your system and hardware's..Types

here is one way to look at it from my point of view.

On the right lower corner you can see I have the application and hardware available but an not using the extended desktop, I am using primary only and low key for Fo3 for performance reasons.

I just tested it again. This time I enabled only the second display (my external monitor), and tried to launch Fallout 3. Still, despite there being only one display active, Steam said there's another instance of Fallout 3 already running.

ok so not to get too far ahead of things. reset the system as you had it.

Lap top and game playable through steam on Primary display.

once this is done. don't disable any thing, just plug in the HDMI cord to the lap top, reboot into the bios and set the HDMI as president....if applicable?

Lappies are all different and most have little if any Bios configurations..but..the thought here is, IF the hardware and software are correct, windows should change the hardware preferences on boot.

IF the lap top does not have this available, what ever you do, DO NOT disable any basic VGA graphics in there...that kind of programing is meant for desk top PC's only...and we do not want any mishaps taking place...this is not important enough to experiment.

chip manufacturer has instructions for that unit and you should follow it. Now, HDMI if set as default at boot should boot up and the screen graphics if correct will display VGA low end only because it has never been implemented yet...once this takes place, re-run steams update feature so it can now see the new card.

that's whats wrong, steam is locked out and can not see the hardware....the HDMI hard ware and the TV set need to be in sync..

how to explain this...the monitor soft wares made for all things do not take into account of all the new technology we are throwing at the PC's.

what happens when I connect My HDMI to my PC here is all kinds of crazy things take place, yes, I too have seen steam cry about weird things, but it's not steam that's at fault, it is a fight between the TV and the HDMI programing for the extended device and also thrown into the mix the software battle taking place.

Boot HDMI only if possible....but there is another option to possible kick some software loose and get it to register...does that lap top also have a VGA port too?

when you see the steam message, please screen shoot that for me, I need to see the complaint, I'll forward that shot to tech and see what else can be done.

I'll be sure to do this after I'm finished with classes for today. I really appreciate you helping me out with this. I'll be back with the results here in a few hours.

I may require spec's on the 32 inch display, manufacturer, capabilities and you may need to set it up on screen using it's remote if applicable ?

Input type needs to be set...though I bet that's already done....I have to check every thing possible.

it only takes one spot to choke things.
