Lyncor
Good afternoon! I've been getting really into Oblivion mods recently, and have installed a whole bunch of game-changing stuff to try to make the experience a lot more enjoyable and increase the immersion. However, in my searching I have been unsuccessful in locating a mod which, quite simply, reduces the movement speed of actors when they are firing a bow. I find it unrealistic that someone could be sprinting (especially backwards) and taking aim at the same time. This mechanic (or lack thereof) has allowed me to kite and kill pretty much any foe in the game, and I am quite sick of being able to do so. It takes a lot of the challenge away from combat, especially when using a character who is actually skilled at archery. This same reasoning can be applied to spellcasting. It is very easy to simply back-pedal and throw spells until the enemy is dead, and similarly unrealistic. Preferably, this would be a global change. In principle, I dislike balance modifications that only affect the player - if the world is going to work in a certain manner, I would like it to work that way for NPCs also. Possible implementations: Actors are prevented from "running" from the beginning of the fetch-arrow-and-knock-to-string animation until a moment after the projectile is released from the bow, and any movement in this time must be at "walk" speed. Actors receive a penalty to their Athletics and/or Speed attributes/skills from the beginning of the fetch-arrow-and-knock-to-string animation until a moment after the projectile is released from the bow. The first implementation idea seems better to me. Manually editing the Actors' attributes seems problematic at its face, and far more likely to conflict with other mods. Note that this could preferably also be applied to ranged spellcasting animations. I believe that such a mod would be an excellent improvement to game mechanics and make ranged combat a little less overpowered in the hands of a skilled player. If this has already been done... fantastic! Please let me know which mod and/or mods implement it. I have had a look with keywords such as "slow movement" and "bow", but haven't found anything. I am slightly tempted to try to make this myself as I have some programming experience, but I have never done any coding for Oblivion and have somewhat limited amounts of free time so am not sure how to go about it. Also... hi! :D Edited December 5, 2010 by Lyncor
Sorgren
I am not sure how this can be done as I have no idea of scripting, but I am adding this to my to-do list, sooner or later I will have to learn some scripting anyways if I want to lead my mod project, and this idea is excellent. If someone is willing to fullfil his request then could he or she please teach me how it is done? Lyncor
Giving this a bump. Hope that's acceptable practice.
Lyncor
While looking for a completely different type of mod, I stumbled upon a comment which lead me on a quest to find the following mod: Phitts Phighting Phixeshttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32651 One of the features is Limited Mobility, which apparently does what I have described. Fantastic! :D Downloading it now.
