qualadutyblackops
I understand why Pirates are automatically banned. but why do some people get banned over little things. I also understand why directly coping stuff from other games gets you banned. But why do some Modders get their stuff taken down because they may have used some assets they have not created. For example, the guy who made the Angel Park mod for New Vegas got banned because he copied only a few little textures that no one really cares about which really punisheds the people who download the mod, not the Author. As long as people give credit where its due, you shouldn't ban people for little things like that. And i know some also say to leave if i dont like it, but in reality, there no other good modding sites
bben46
There are LAWS on copyright that cover any original work. If it is copyrighted, then using it without the owner's permission is a violation of the copyright LAW. This is not some silly rule we made up to make things difficult for people, but a real LAW. If you as an individual break a copyright, it is not likely that a greedy lawyer will come after you because he doesn't see you as having enough money to make it profitable for him. At the worst, you may get a nasty letter threating you. However, the Nexus is a high profile target and a copyright owner may feel they need to sue us in order to protect a copyright. You may feel that it's worth the risk of being sued out of business because someone didn't bother to get permission before using someone elses work. We don't. The Nexus protects the rights of mod makers. So more good modders are willing to upload their work here than on sites that do allow their hard work to be used by anyone without their permission. Most authors will give permission if asked. A few won't for some reason or another. Here is a link to a simple explanation of copyrights. See #3 (giving credit) & 7 (derivative work) especially
BrownPastel
... As long as people give credit where its due, you shouldn't ban people for little things like that.... That isn't necessarily the case: just because you give credit, doesn't mean that you can get away with using the assets. If the assets are Open Source or Permission was given to use them, then the modder can use them, and of course credit them. CK Projekt allows people to use their assets as I'm sure Modders have sought out permission to use them. They didn't just go and use them.
Oubliette
These questions never cease to baffle me. If someone worked hard to create something original and don't want that something given away without their permission that's as reasonable as you not being able to have a slice of cake that someone else made and doesn't want to give you. Not everyone has a right to everyone elses cake, bake your own if you want one that much.
Druuler
For example, the guy who made the Angel Park mod for New Vegas got banned because he copied only a few little textures that no one really cares about...Since you brought that up as an example, there was a lot more involved than just that. If you had read his ban notice, you would be aware of that. Sorry, but to me, that sort of attitude/view on things really shows a complete lack of respect of another person's property, both physical and intellectual, and aggravates me to no end. After all, I am sure that the textures' creator really cared, and in the end, that was all that mattered. Edited April 3, 2015 by Druuler
ZeroKing
Because theft is totally a moral and legal action, am I right?
MotoSxorpio
Angel Park quoted for example..."just because he copied a few textures".... :ermm: The copyright debate is exhausting. If you didn't make it, don't claim it...jeez.
