wolron
I am at level 41. I have finished the Third Trial for becoming Nevarine (I know that's the wrong spelling, but I get tired of trying to remember all the crazy names in this game). It appears that now I have to become a Hortator in all three houses. Question: Is this just some level of advancement, or is this something special? I have only joined Hlaalu and I have not advanced very far. Do I have to join all three houses? The Redorans will not allow me to join because I am an Incarnate fraud (or something like that). Baphomet
Becoming Horator of all three Houses is completely independent of "joining" a Great House and becoming the Horator is an integral part of the Main Quest. You can only join one Great House, unless you want to use a plug-in that allows you join the others. Well, there is a way to join two, but it's complicated and I don't remember how it's done. DreamOfTheRood
The quest to become the Hortator is part of the main quest and is not linked to any missions of the Great Houses. In fact, you can complete the Main Quest without joining any of the Great Houses. This is recommended by me.
wesaynothin
The way to join two houses is simple. Join one (redoran or telvanni) house before killing the good Dagoth. Kill him, get the rewards, blah blah blah. Speak to the duke about his brother(may be cammona tong), and he will make u grandmaster of Hlaalu. You arent really grandmaster, but you are in two houses. Malchik
You will not become Grandmaster at once but you can start doing all the Hlaalu quests and rise in the ranks as anyone else would, should you so choose. You cannot build a stronghold because the Duke will tell you you already have one and won't give you a deed. Now he has a spare one. I have tried to steal it from him without success. I can probably get it by killing him but I'm not sure if I can them become Grandmaster. So, when you've done everything up to the point where you need a stronghold, return to the Duke and talk about his brother again.
wolron
Thanks for the help. I had already figured out the answer though. I just got a little ansy and was worried that I would have to do all those ridiculously boring quests for all three houses. By the way, the Horator thing looks to be just about as boring as the House quests. Am I in for a surprise or is this going to be a yawner? Malchik
IMO becoming the Hortator is not one of the high points of the game. Hlaalu is dull, Televanni requires one death, Redoran a rescue (easy) and a death. But I don't find all the Great House quests as dull as you do. Several are but others can be challenging if you try them at a low level. The Daedric shrine of Ashalmawia for House Redoran for instance. As a matter of interest, of all the game quests, which have you most enjoyed so far?
wolron
I tend to prefer the action quests where there is a puzzle mixed in as well. The best so far (out of several candidates) is the quest for the Ring of the Wind. It took a little effort to find where to go, then you had to get there, then there was a decent dungeon to clear out. All of the Lalatia Varian, Imperial Cult quests are pretty good so far, but I think I have a few more to go. I also like the first significant quest from Balmora which was to find the Dwemer Puzzle Box. A major complaint that I have had with all the "Elder scrolls" series is that there are many many many quests, but only a very few are worth the time and effort. It just seems that their objective is to install terminal boredom. You know what I mean: run a message here, find three of those flowers, deliver this book, etc.

I remember my first character getting fed up when Aljira (sp? (the Argonian in the Balmora Mages Guild)) wanted me to fetch some staff or other from Way-The-Hell-And-Gone-Vvardenfall; but then told me... "You can keep the staff, I just want to see it." It was at that point, I believe, that I killed her.
Malchik
Baphomet, you killed the Khajit in the mages guild in Balmora? After she was so nice and friendly to give you such wonderful tips? And you didn't get the Warlock's ring quest then? Wolron, I think part of the purpose of some of the quests is to make you wander around areas of the landscape where you can find tombs, caves etc that contain powerful relics like the Staff of Hasedoki (? spelling) that are not otherwise scripted into the game. But Morrowind is not a game of puzzles - pull levers in the correct order etc. - and surely was never intended to be? IMO it would have been more fun to have been forced to search for keys rather than find by security level 60 or so you can open everything. But I play Morrowind for what it does offer (and that is quite a lot) and have other games for what it doesn't. Why not build your own mod and incorporate all the things you'd like to see? There would be no shortage of interest.
