Doing a Legion Playthrough?

Hi folks.

So far I have three different characters on the go:

1. The Survivalist, a tough loner who plays on Very Hard Hardcore mode. Focused on sniping, survival and repair, has affinity with boone and a soft spot for the NCR's mission (and their ranger armour).

2. Mastermind, an evil psychotic genius who focuses on energy weapons and melee combat, doing as he pleases and taking orders from noone. Going towards an independant vegas

3. Jayna, a charismatic girl with little combat skill, but an army of followers and unsurpassed conversation, bartering and problem solving talents. Loyal subject of Mr House

SO I figure I'd like to complete the set. I want to roleplay a new character. A Loyal and Indomitable warrior who swears allegiance to caesar and believes ultimately in his quest to subjugate the inferior peoples of the wasteland.

To this end, I'm looking for advice on how best to serve caesar's will. What talents are useful to him?

I know, for instance, that good medical skill is needed to save him from cancer at some point, and good melee/guns/unarmed skill to take advantage of the legion's preferred weaponry. What else would be suitable?
Is there a way to get centurion armour without having to kill one?
What missions or other opportuniries are there, to gain caesar's favour?
Seems like there aren't too many ways to help the legion until you can get to the fort.

There is the one where you spread the fear of the legion after visiting nipton, helping them take out fort nelson...

You might be able to get some fame by sucking up during dialogue options. I know there are a few easy things you can do to help at cottonwood cove with high explosive skills.

its a little hard since there are no legion affiliated wastelanders or towns like there are with the ncr.

A legion character is definitely melee/unarmed build, but maybe not too much in guns. Get a throwing mod to increase the inventory of thrown weapons.

Does Caesar ever stop treating you like s***?

I'm not finding the legion path so fun to playthrough so far.

I'm Accepted by legion, I've wrecked house's bunker, assassinated house, spread the word by killing a major at mojave outpost, and saved their informant on the omertas.

The only reward I've had so far is getting to crucify benny. No fancy legion weapons, armour, promotions or anything :(

It seems like a lot of modding will be needed to make the legion fun to play with. Why won't their blacksmith sell me anything, for example ?

And the gate guards are still taking all my weapons every time I enter the fort, making it rather painful to play. Does that ever stop?

If the fallout wiki is anything to go by, there are only three places to get centurion armour, two require killing centurions, and the third is past the point of no return.

Does it get better? Is the legion worth playing for? Tell me about any high points in their story arc (this is the spoiler forum after all!)

I just want to slaughter profligates with a machete gladius while wearing centurion armour ;-;

After doing all you can in cottonwood, unleash the toxic barrels on them for not rewarding your loyalty. No karma loss.

Reward yourself by promoting yourself to the rank of Centurion by stealing Aurelius' centurion armour and gladius

I can't tell you if it's going to get better. I generally play the self-serving nice guy. I generally do the right thing, usually for reward, unless you cross me, then I'll play nice until you have nothing left to offer. McNamara should have known better than to put a slave collar on me.I

Just finished my Legion playthrough (with a female character actually, so some of the Fort offerings were denied to me simply for that fact ie the arena) Ceasar does get slightly nicer but you are not exactly treated as a savior. Some respect comes from Legate but not a lot.

And I never found a way to get a Ballistic fist while on the Legions side. Might have been able to pickpocket or steal but... kinda defeats the purpose to me. At this point... I would say no... not really worth it to replay a Legion friend.
