Dealing with ranged mages

I'm having a hell of a time dealing with magic based enemies, especially because with the Requiem mod my armor weighs me down and I can't really run for my life.

I'm guessing the best tactic is to sneak up and fire arrows at them, but if I aggro a whole mob of them they chase me down and kill me.

I could wear light armor so I can sneak and escape better, but then if I run into a melee character I run the risk of getting chopped to pieces.

The other problem is that dealing with a bunch of mages always results in an empty stamina bar so I need a bunch of green potions before I do battle. At this point (level 21) it might be better to just avoid them until I get stronger?

I'm unsure what your current character build is, but sometimes you just have to fight fire with fire.

If you've invested in your magicka reserves, try deploying some wards to deflect against their spells. This is particularly useful against large-groups of lesser enemies, or individual, greater enemies. You could also invest into the alteration tree and use some "flesh" spells to increase your armour rating. This may allow you to use light armour, and still achieve the armour rating that is gained from wearing a heavy set.

Or, if like me, you don't particularly enjoy the mage set-up, you may want to invest into the Alchemy tree. This will allow you to create potent poisons to relieve your enemies of their magicka, or powerful potions to give you a greater resistance to the different elements used in the Destruction tree. This however will take some time as Alchemy is a pain to level up to a decent level. So I also recommend looking into enchanting. Here you can achieve the same results as the Alchemical approach, by adding "vampire" enchantments to your weapons, like Drain/Absorb Magicka and you can add resistance enchantments to your armour, such as Frost Resistance.

I hope I helped, if you have any problems, let me know, and I'll try to help.

Depends on the build but is usually a good idea to w8 for them run out of magicka. In melee builds its always useful to have a shield with magic resistance to sponge a few of their attacks until they run out of magicka. Wards works as well. A couple of lighting spells or ravage magicka poisoned arrows helps too. They may be able to attack a few more times but they ends up taking way too long to do it again, giving me time to kill them first.

Thanks for the answers. My build is marksmanship (6 second reload with crossbow) and one-handed mace with shield. I don't have any magic to speak of.

I've tried getting into magic before but it's just so much more complicated than pointing the sharp thing at the enemy. I guess I will have to learn more about enchanting and magic haha

Thanks, yes, this is a good idea except Requiem mod doesn't allow changing of armor in combat so if I get surprised by mages I have to live with what I have. But if I sneak up on them I can have the proper armor at the ready.

Or I could just go super squishy and try and stay away from ranged enemies by using magic resist items and trying to get my follower to tank the incoming fire

Requiem employs a rock-paper-scissor system for combat: Heavily-armored characters vanquish archers in light armor, who can easily outsnipe mages, who destroy tank-type opponents.

When I did my no-magic Melee build, I heavily used alchemy, Slow Time and Whirlwind Sprint.

Crossbow is too slow, try using bow and poison; much faster and almost as powerful.
