Oblivion shuts down after a short while!

Hey there!

 

so, i've played oblivion a lot some while back and i've wanted to replay it once more with new and updated mods.

 

thing is, everything works perfectly (after a lot of tinkering), except for one thing : after a very short while (about a minute), oblivion shuts down!

it happens only when i get out of the sewers though (at the begining of the game). whatever i do after that doesn't seem to affect this in any way.

 

is it the mods i installed that f*#@s things up?

The crashes are likely because Oblivion by default does not purge memory that's built up over its use; data that has been loaded into RAM is generally left there even if the data is not in use i.e when you enter a house, Oblivion does not purge textures and meshes cached in RAM/Page File that were displayed when you were outdoors (i.e Tree's, rocks, exterior buildings, etc), even though they aren't being displayed.

 

You can enable memory purging, but Oblivion has no configuration options for this, and often it purges so often that there is often lots of unused RAM that could be used to cache some data for a certain period of time.

 

Try installing the mod "Streamline" it's an intelligent and configurable memory purging system (though if you're having good performance aside from the crashes, you'll want to disable all of its functions except for the memory purger, as it also is intended to change quality settings dynamically for low-mid end PC's). You'll want to tweak its config file, so read the "readme" included.
