Safe Way To Lower Player Level and Stats Using Console?

I thought I would give it a try while waiting for some advice, and surprisingly it all seems to be working ok, no problems as yet regarding the possible issues mentioned by others :happy:

Hi everybody,

 

I'm a couple hundred hours into my current playthrough, level 40 currently, and my character is becoming extremely OP. I tried swapping out my normal arsenal of weapons for lower powered variants, same with armor, and I stopped adding any points to stats for Guns, Energy Weapons and Explosives when they hit 65, but I'm still finding that I'm OP.

 

Ok so my plan was to lower my level to 20 from 40. Then decreasing my stats accordingly: -20 levels (15x20 = 300) removing 300 points from my stats and dropping a few on the SPECIAL.

I thought this would be a simple job with a couple of console commands...... but then I started reading threads from people saying some commands like "setav, modav, advlevel" can mess up your game, for example, stop you from being able to level up afterwards (permanently stuck at the level you set), or removing items, quests not starting... e.t.c.

 

So I wanted to ask for some advice on the best commands to use to do this, or a safe way that shouldn't mess things up?

Any help would be great.
