mdingman
as far as that last post goes, you just need to look at the ending with the Legion vs. the ending with the NCR to see that the Legion is better

marharth
I am not sure if everyone understood what I meant. My issue is that the game makes the NCR LOOK like the good guys, and the legion LOOK like the bad guys. My issue is not that certain groups are certain things, my issue is that the game tried to be to black and white in the good and bad sense. minngarm
I dont think it tries to make either side look good or bad, infact it goes with the lore for each side. The NCR WANT to be the good guys, and want to be percieved as that, so that is the jist of what they are doing. The legion however does not negotiate, does not try to win the people over, it crushs what stands against it and keeps rolling.
ita
@GenocideLolita Did u also read about "Caesar's Priestesses"? They are some of the most important people in the Legion and they are women. "although some are assigned to other tasks" is also a key phrase there. Also, the legion needs to have women as "breeding stock" because they need to field a large army and in a post-apocalyptic wasteland there aren't too many people to go around. I agree that using women as breeding stock is wrong, but you can see why the Legion does that. Besides, there's no telling how the Legion will change when they decide to become a less military-oriented society. Women's roles will probably change. I'm not saying the Legion is perfect, i'm just saying it's the most perfect. No sources state that they gain any liberties by being assigned to serve as Priestesses, so as far as we know they're still slaves with a different job description. In regards to the Legion army, the NCR fields an army equal to or slightly more numerous than the Legion's fighting force without having to treat women as mere birthing machines. By 2281 they are the single largest military force in the Mojave wasteland, rivaled only by the Caesar's Legion. The problem with a martial society based on continuous expansion is that it depends on a state of constant warfare to maintain discipline. Once there's nothing left to conquer the armies would have to be converted into a police force to prevent civil unrest, keeping the population in an iron grip and turning the wasteland into the Third Reich. And considering the Legion's disregard for such things as medical science, people wouldn't only be tyrannized, they'd probably die in mass epidemics as well.  Caesar thinks he can change human nature. Most of the Legion is following Caesar, not Caesar's ideals. When he's gone it'll crumble. I never felt that the writers were trying to make the NCR look like the good guys in shining armor, they're certainly not perfect but like Cass I see them as the least evil option. The Legion on the other hand is portrayed as more evil than the mutant offspring of Satan and Hitler. Dasim4
I can't figure why people have a problem with the whole GECK story line. This is science fiction you know? They have technologies that don't exist in our world. Androids that pass for humans, laser and plasma weapons, stim packs, easy radiation treatment, cars with nuclear power plants, functional power armor, hovering intelligent robots. All that and more and yet the GECK is your sticking point. Sorry I can't buy that. I didn't find it at all strange that they could possibly have a device that would bring life back to an area or that it could be reengineered to produce clean water. In fact I thought it was a pretty imaginative story considering everything else that has happened and is happening in that game world. Their technologies are obviously well beyond what we currently have. Even though we have people working on some of the things mentioned we are no where near making them a reality as we see them in the game. Something like the GECK is what science fiction is all about. Take those fantastical things out and all you have is reality and where's the fun in that?
