NV Rendering and Animation in Maya

Hello everybody.

I see the Maya forum does not get any attention, so I thought I would go ahead and post some of the stuff I have been working on in Maya with Fallout NV and non Fallout related content. Though to be honest, one of the projects I am planning to work on will involve other things that I do in Maya.

I am more into animation than I am modeling, and more into rendering than I am animating. I found a good combination of the two over the years and decided to give a shot at working with the New Vegas content inside of Maya. It has been a while since Fallout 3 came out, and that was what originally inspired me to want to do what I was able to do with the following video. Though I have been working in Maya for much longer.

Images

The following is something I wanted to toy around with. Importing the Rangers signature weapon.

This next one was for a friend of mine actually. Don't get the wrong idea, we're great buddies. Just a little humor.

The last image is one of the test rig I made, before rendering the video.

There are a few minor issues I need to work out with the rig (look at the finger) ;)

Made this rig quickly when I was excited about getting game content into Maya.

And... Finally... My test video. The original render was actually 4,000 by 1,440. Least that's what it should say in the video.

I couldn't render it to 4,000 resolution for You Tube, so you'll have to live with the 2,048 resolution version.

Other animation

21K Earth: Autodesk Maya 2048 x 1152

There are two projects I want to work on. One which I've contacted someone about already, and a second personal project that will also include this very same content.

A fully 3D animated Fallout NV short film with voice acting. This planet animation is a demonstration of what will go into the project as well, and is something that incorporates

my other skills in 3D.

Hope you enjoy

Hello Argomirr,

From the game to OBJ to Maya. The textures were imported as their original DDS files, and most of these images were either rendered at 1920 by 1080, or 8,000 by 2,813.

And thank you! :)

Doesn't look like much attention get's given to any of the 3D forums :P

Oh well.

Anyways, if you happen to stop by this thread. I have a new update.

I'm now working on a small project for another person which will utilize all that I am working on here right now.

Before I do that however, I am working on another video for my YouTube. A demonstration video of the rendering of game models inside of Maya.

The following image depicts a work in progress with textures, and depth of field. A video of a few rangers doing something which I don't want to say yet will be in HD when it comes out.

This next one also depicts the same scene but in my personal favorite setting.

A different truck, with a new sun direction and global illumination or GI.

I guess it won't hurt to show you who they are pointing at : D

Hehehe....for the guy NOT wearing armor holding a pistol at a guy WEARING armor, I'd be more than a bit concerned about the possibility of a ricochet injury. :P

As for the forums not getting enough love, it really needs participation by those using the tools (its also very new so it is not exactly a "hub" yet). I use Blender and I'm in the process of writing tutorials using it...which will further increase its value in modding.

I don't use Maya so I can only do so much for helping those that do use Maya. At some point, Maya users will just have to write down something that other Maya users might find helpful.

You don't have to be experts in order to write tutorials. If you know how to do anything in Maya, write it down if other modders might find it useful. Even if its just basic steps on how to animate something and not an all-inclusive tutorial on how to get animation created and running in game is still useful. We all have to start somewhere and writing very simple tutorials is a start. It is something I do as part of my plans to create more detailed tutorials. I like to focus on tutorials teaching something specific and if I can defer other topics to tutorials already created, all the better.

Haha, just play along L.

Let's just say that these men are using a realistic combat mod and their bullets actually do damage at close range. After all, NV did mention a sort of war between the two.

Any who I have a new Video, and looks like I wont be making a new post for this if it kicks up.

I guess you could say, a bunch of armored BOS dudes with a .44 pointed at them by three rangers might be intimidating enough if they don't have any weapons right? : D

Personally, I've been waiting to see some BOS guys bending down for the man in the dark trench-coat. :P

I have some stuff I could post for tutorials. I don't want to break any forum rule though by making double, triple, or even quad posts though.

But I am guessing he is just using maya software/hardware rendering and possible the mental ray is it or the other one I can never remember.

Looking forward to seeing the finished work!

It can be done but Maya is not exactly a popular tool in the modding scene.

You'll first need to extract the BSA files that are installed with the game so you can access the models (NIF) and textures (DDS).

You then install the NifTools plugin for Maya so you can import / export NIF files. While you are at it, you will also need NifSkope to change / tweak NIF settings.
