Site Bot
Article link: Weapon Inscribing? Hmm... Well, I've been considering starting to do inscribing for various people's weapons, using their character's name, or any other name. I have finally taken the step towards texture editing, and have already successfully retextured a sword to have markings along the blade (screenshot can be provided if you want an example). Basically, I was considering doing personal retex's for people, then uploading them for everyone to download, especially that person, in exchange for a endorse on the official mod file for this, and/or a kudos point, should they like the way the weapon turned out. I've never seen anything about this, so I was wondering how people would take to this. Opinions?

TrueChaoS
Hello im not to new to TES but vary new when it comes to modding i havent every seen any one offer a service like wha your talkng about and i think its a great idea id love to have my avis names on there armor or blades or maybe some symbols Ok, tell me what the name is (unless it's "avis"), what armor set/weapon you would like inscribed, if you want the armor inscribed, where do you want it inscribed, etc. etc.I am unsure if I can do armor or glass weapons, because the textures are confusing, but I can give it a shot, if you wish.I can also do colour changes on the weapons at the same time. EDIT: Sorry it took so long to reply, I keep forgetting to check my articles for replies =\ lol Edited December 24, 2010 by TrueChaoS
vvk78
Is it possible to add two Umbra swords with golden and crimson (red) textures, with the inscriptions "Curse of Mehrunes Dagon" (for crimson sword) and "Blessing of Akatosh" (for golden sword)? The Umbra sword has highest base damage in the game, but I never really liked its purple color. Also, if we want a sword that looks nicer and is more suitable for inscriptions, then an Akaviri Katana is better as it has less ridges and is fairly longer than other swords. Odem has recreated some nice Katana swords: http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=743615 If we are looking for a beautifully crafted sword, I can suggest the Eagle Sword (though inscriptions on it might end up marring its beauty): http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7547 If these mod authors have no problem with their mods being used for the inscribing, then we can take it forward. Otherwise, we can stick to inscribing the Umbra or Akaviri Katana or any other base sword you prefer.
TrueChaoS
I would personally prefer to stick to base swords, because I dislike the idea of uploading other people's meshes and the such, but I'll see what I can do. It may be a while, though, because of personal.. "issues".. However, really think about it, which sword would you want the most to be inscribed? Put all of the ones you listed in order, so I know where to look first.
LHammonds
FYI - For smooth surfaces, you might be able to create an acceptable effect by modifying just the normal map. Example: The following image shows a sword with a smooth metal texture but the normal map has my name in it. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee11/Conan_Lon/Oblivion/WIP/Ultraviolet-GreatKatana2.jpg
TrueChaoS
Thanks for the tip, LHammond! ^^ I'll be sure to keep that in mind, it'd be very useful for "confusing" textures, such as Glass.
