I dont know if theres any mod of such, but you could make it yourself easely. All you would need is NifSkope and unpacked .bsa . I had fun for about 3 hours changing the texture of a armor plate.

Nifskope is an uttility used to view Nif files, those that Oblivion uses as meshes. A mesh is the 3d image of an object, raging from oblivion's armor to rocks. With nifskope, you can change the texture of an item. Lets say you load Mythril armor (+texture), you may slightly change the color of that texture. Or you may load the original .dds (texture file) with photoshop and darken it. Then you get it in the game and into a mod.

If that was chinesse, well you wont have alot of luck figuring out how to accually do it. You can google Nifskope, its a free utility. Oh but you will need to unpack your .bsa files (oblivions meshes, textures, etc) wich will add 3.2 gb onto your HD.

Still, the simplest thing you could do is google the mod, or wait until somebody does one.

Unfortunatly the cs does not come with theese options, unlike other games such as Neverwinter Nights.

I hope that didnt confuse you. It confused me the first time I went trough.

Step by step instructions (these assume you have unpacked your .BSAs, and have NIFSkope and GIMP+DDS plugin)

If you DON'T have all of those, take a look at this thread. Not sure exactly where in there they're listed, but I think I mention them all in my first post.

Open C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Meshes\armor\

Create a new folder, lets call it BlackMithril

Open \mithril

Start another copy of Windows Explorer.

Open C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Textures\armor\

Create another BlackMithril folder.

Open \mithril

The files for Male and Female sets are in \m and \f respectively. I'll detail how to do the shield, which is in the current directory.

In the Meshes\armor\mithril\ folder, open shield.NIF --- This should open in NIFSkope.

In the Textures\armor\mithril\ folder, open shield.DDS --- This should open in the GIMP.

Now, go to the shield.DDS window in the GIMP.

Select the Tools... pulldown, then Color Tools->Curves

Experiment until you find a configuration you like.

Save the texture in the \Textures\Armor\BlackMithril folder.

(NOTE: Could someone who's actually done this before contribute as to which settings should be used when saving?)

Switch to NIFSkope

Expand the NISourceTexture branch

Expand the Source Texture sub-branch

Right-click on the "File Name" entry, select Choose

Go to the proper folder, and select the corresponding texture.

Save to \Meshes\Armor\BlackMithril

EDIT: Using Levels instead of Curves seems to look good, too.

There are a couple of very good mods out already that do change the color of Mithril to Black. One is Assissin's Light Armor version 2, and version2 update. There is also a couple that have Black Scale mail in which look really cool. they are Dunmer Scalemail, and Dragon Scale version 2. check those mods out, they add the armor to vendors which is good.
